Not much to report from the city - a few showers and a period of moderate rain. Looked a lot better on the radar than out the window Razz Still good to get some rain, and certainly more than was expected which is always a bonus.

Looks to me like Ferny Creek has done OK - but was just slightly to far north of the early storms which seemed to peak around Upwey/Lysterfield (has happened lot this year). Will report later.. but would guess about 7mm.

2mm recorded here, not bad considering I got nothing yesterday. Last little shower went through about 15 minutes ago, I'd say thats about it for now.

Ended up with 8mm so reasonably happy. All up we were lucky to get the front at peak solar heating (which can make all the difference for central areas). Best falls around the state are actually in the metro area - Monbulk and Bayswater with 10mm. Decent temperature drop across the system - 6C up here ATM after 18C yesterday arvo.

Two separate thunderstorms and a tiny bit of hail - so two t-storm days already for September (and 9 since the start of August - which is just amazing).

I can't see much overnight but there is another trough due to pass across Victoria tomorrow as the low drifts southeast. This is timed to pass through Melbourne around lunchtime so we could pick up a bit more then (ahead of the next system on Sunday->Wed).

Will give an update on thought for Sunday.... tomorrow (always think it is bad luck to look to the next system before the current one is done tongue )

8mm for the day, got lucky with initial 4mm out of heavy shower centred over rain gauge. Handy start for the month. Certainly fresh.

Another 5mm today from the showers which is fantastic on top of the 12mm from the storms yesterday. Didn't really expect todays extra at all. Heres hoping there is something on Sunday before it starts to dry up for the summer.

4.9mm here from the past two days. A lot more than that over the mountain, 11.2mm at the Mount Macedon MW station by the looks of things.

Cold air this evening was very decent. Currently 3C here.

My sister had 13mm in Monbulk while there tonight and it bucketed down for a good hour. Strong NW winds and a few claps of thunder with graupel/hail at times. Very nice.

9mm here all up, had 5mm in the gauge from the few hailshowers/storms and ~4mm with the rainband.

Looking like another shower or two tomorrow but very clear and cold currently so that could aid further convection.

Very damp underfoot, a good way to counteract the early warmth!!!

A chilly 4C overnight - clear, crisp and cold. The last of the "troughs" looks to be on the western border with a few showers. Not a lot in it but could get a mm or two if lucky.

Will start a new thread for the new low Sun->Wed which does look promising.

Woke up this morning, read the forecast - partly cloudy, isolated showers, looked outside, nothing but blue sky. There is a bit of cloud to the west but other than that it has that 'warm' look about it outside. 16 the max, there will have to be a lot of cloud to stop the temperature from getting over 16.

Trying to drizzle here but getting stuck over the northern side of the range.

8C last time I looked, may be a degree or two warmer now though.

Can't see any storms today the atmosphere is increasingly becoming more stable even the showers are small and having mimimal effect and also restricted close to the coast. They will all clear by this evening.

Just letting everyone know that I am now back from work experience at the BoM. I had the most fantastic time, particularly when I was with the forecasters at the VRO and NMOC. I drew maps for newspapers and TV as well as help with a warning being issued. They were the highlights, but learnt heaps more! Wink Also, was good to see the forecasters in action when that thunderstorm come through on Thursday. Not sure on rainfall totals here whilst I was away, will let everyone know sooner or later.

Nice scotch mist about this morning 'til around midday which put another 1mm in the gauge. Ground is quite wet underfoot and everything very damp.

Re: Victoria: Springs fronts/lows September 1st-7th 2009

Very interesting conditions here. 12.5C with the sun out, much warmer than anywhere else around here at the same elevation. 10.5C at Ballarat and just 8C at Kilmore half an hour ago. Warmer here than Redesdale and the same as Tullamarine. Wondering what is causing this, whether we have a localised break in the cloud here or if there is a localised spike in temps that may be replicated elsewhere across the state later on. DPs slowly creeping up. From this morning's sounding looks like a temp of 18C and DP of 8 (in Melbourne) should trigger some decent convection with DPs -1.5 to -2 and some modest CAPE even on the cards around 500.

Could actually be very interesting. Middle levels have looked unstable all day just need temps and humidity to increase now.
