Well very nice, but very narrow, squall line coming through on radar. I think that might be "The one" that today brings though unfortuantly. ant see anything much else building. Still very overcast here, so not much room for stuff to grow...

Hmm, look at the red and yellow bits on the radar, heading north-east over Geelong at the moment.

Just had a moderate shower here but all focus to the west and south. Could be 5mm+ in this.

Get the cameras ready...

Should be a STW for the southern coastline at least and a nasty cell developing on the northwest portion of the convergence line, should provide Jane and Clyve a bit of viewing pleasure.

A couple of hours away but looks to peak at the right time for us here in Melbourne. We are diurnally lucky Wink

Unreal convection to my S SW Cells near Rosebud look unreal from here and becoming quite lightning active as well.

Some solid meaty cores forming in the line mostly around the heads of the bay line thickening nicely as well going be be very interesting in about 40 mins or so.

Looks great to S solid Cbs

Radar looking very nice

Quite lightning active at Point Lonsdale. Not much in the way of rainfall, even winds aren't too severe.
Things trying to develop here since about 3.30pm

Yes and to think I was down in Frankston earlier!! I should have kept driving south.

Can see the tops of the showers and storms from here and they look good. Also some decent convection to my NE behind the Dandenongs.

I am sitting outside and can see the anvils from here to the south...a lot of high cloud about but there is plenty of convection and support for the cells. I swear the Pt Lonsdale cell has an overshooting roof...

Anyhow still a while off here in Melbourne but there is a lengthy clear slot coming over so this should help things!!!

Hinezy's down on the mornington atm, catching up with Greg too. Yeah watching that cell on the northern part of the line. I'm in the dong this weekend, overcast with some showers/virga about. Not sure if anything will eventuate, though sat vis shows some cu development in clear air behind the high/mid level cloud band

That band is shaping up really nicely. It's running into nice warm humid air across the plains west of Melbourne with good convergence between northerlies and now southwesterlies behind the trough (the trough is sharpening up which with the developing band). Will be interesting to watch Avalon to give us a good idea of the intensity.

Should thicken up as it moves across and be into Melbourne's

I would consider my first ever chase today if I didn't have to stay home for a tradie. Love the look of the development on the north western end of that line.

Should organise over the CBD and over the eastern suburbs more so. Still looking like 5mm or so about the place and possibly 10mm down in the southeast.

6C temperature drop and 4mm at Sheoaks under the band so a bit in it. Would expect it to fire up as soon as it hits the hills east of the city (starting about Kew).

Could split up for a period over the western suburbs but should develop over the east again from where DJ speculates.

Hoping for a few mm as we go into tonight.

Good to hear the report of thunder from Ballarat. That region there will have the most severe weather about the place today. The southern storms are not half bad but fairly embedded but some good structure likely as signatures behind the early rainband suggested turbulence in the mid layers.

Looks like the ranges are splitting it - the northern edge is running a bit slower that the southern edge (presumably as it first hits the hills). Sound consolidate closer to the CBD. Off to Mount Dandy lookout for a better view.

BTW notice that it is now up to 17C up here (the hottest for the day) so still plenty of opportunity.

PS is bit of an odd band laying back so far (NW-ES - usually these run a little more N-S).

Let us know what you view mate Smile I would do the same but by the time I get up there it would be too late.

I think we will find out in the next half hour how we go.

I think there is a 50/50 chance of missing out now but some good viewing elsewhere to the south and NW.

Time will tell Smile

You putting the Mozz over for us out this way Karl? Laughing I would hope not bounce

Heard reports of it pouring in Lara also heard stastic on the radio in the past few minutes.

I actually think the Western suburbs is in the prime position this time its really reving up that Northern part of the band and angleing in ESE straight to the Western suburbs

9 times out of 10 I completely miss out in these situations so no excitement here at all. Atmosphere is unstable ahead of the band with Cj going up around the range but it is still that sort of cool air stuff which packs less punch generally. Of course organised along a line it has the potential to create some decent weather.
