We should have lightning for a big part of the night at least. The lightning tracker shows lightning over the whole western part of the state.

Dont know about that Typhoon..expect the radar to hole through the grampians to fill in as it gets closer...and also expect the odd embedded thunderstorm...nothing like SA though except for the back edge of the rainband around dawn..

Looks like the Thomson will get a long overdue decent drink. The band is heading straight for it.

Great news. Going to start raining here soon.

Steady rain here for the past 40 minutes or so but not heavy, more light to moderate but some large drops in there. Looks like some very patchy intensities in there. Hopefully it picks up overnight with an embedded storm or two and heavier bursts of rain throughout the night. Sky certainly looked unstable this evening but more or a general middle level instability associated with the low rather than the type of instability associated with a storm outbreak where you get towers etc.

Reports of 16mm in town,(Mildura) all falling in 20 mins affraid less at airport more N and S of town.

Also hail fell south of town and many lost power for a bit with local flooding all falling in about 20 mins also Huge duststorm just before it hit, and an amazing light show to with some crazy bolts.

I suspect 10-20mm across much of the west decreasing gradually further eastwards. But for Melbourne this is looking much better than a few days ago.

Pleased to see that the EC scenario seems to be coming off - and if anything the low is 200km further east than earlier forecasted. Looks like it will track from Adelaide to just south of Melbourne overnight. That track is about the best possible for widespread rain across Vic though the fast movement suggests rain should clear pretty quickly.

EC has (about) 20mm for us overnight in Ferny Creek which looks a pretty good bet.

BTW anyone in coastal locations will be interesting to see the storm surge on this system. With very low pressure for the rest of the week and westerly winds wrapping tightly around the low we could see some very high sea levels (it is also "spring tide" time).

Looking more closely at the models strikes me that tomorrow has storm potential in central areas. LI to about -1 and probably some clear air between systems.

Then looks like the track on the second low is along the NSW/Vic border - could be great for the Murray catchments but not so good for Melbourne and southern Vic catchments. This is such a dynamic system - though - so wouldn't be surprised to see last minute changes.

BTW looking across the rainfall here are the best totals so far.... (is still raining of course!)
Victoria
Walpeup 22mm
Nhill 17mm
Casterton 13mm
Horsham 12mm
Longernong 11mm
SA - lots of places with very similar totals...
Hindmash Island 26mm
Adelaide 25mm
Cape Jaffa 21mm
Murray Bridge 20mm

I'm thinking 10mm overnight from this rain band. Could have enough bulk to have 15-20mm. Would be a great start to the week. Smile

Nice and solid moderate rain now with large drops and looks like hanging around for quite some time yet despite the fast movement of the system. Behind that could be storms?

Still very lightning active along the Murray, which is a great sign!!
Thanks for the update DJ. Am getting concerned about the impact of the developing low for Wed/Thursday. Gippsland Lakes in particular.
This band is certainly better than I had expected. Was expecting patchy falls with the main band more west.
