Well the Mallee is starting to accumulate some good falls .. just sitting over the top and not moving... BOM could be close on the mark for them anyway.

Don't rule it off just yet - they don't call it complex so we can easily brush it off do fast.

Well the low tracked too far north for us and we only ended up with 4mm out of that. Bom were thinking the low centre would be at about bendigo atm but looks to be more about Yarrawonga. Hope we can get some showers but not looking too flash on that front. Still that's 19mm for the event so nothing to sneeze at!

As expected (at least by me) no real rain in the Dandenongs overnight, but thick drizzle from ~5am as the moist SW became established. Viz was down to ~30m when I got up and about 3mm of rain. Looks like some great falls along the border into NSW.

Looks nice and showery for us today, and more rain in the east. I think Thursday and more so Friday/Saturday will be much more productive for us. EC in its current form will drop 50-100mm in the Dandenongs (though my main interest is in possible snow with 850Ts down to -4 on Sunday Very Happy ).

Went to sleep to the nostalgic sound of rain on the roof and awoke to a gauge full of 17.5 mm of beautiful rain this morning in Kerang. Very Happy An "extended event" total over 30 mm now. So despite yesterday's fizz for the southern parts, the northern parts along the Murray did great.

Finally have the internet up and running again after trouble with it for 12 hours. Some rain here last night, on and off generally as expected, and good to see rainfall falling where it is needed again.

Should see scattered showers continue across the state today, mostly on and south of the ranges. Thunderstorm risk is gone now until tomorrow afternoon across the southwest. Weekend is looking good too, great week of weather!

Just thought I would say that BoM predict both well and not so well, but so do we, and as I have said so many times before, the new system that they have (which was upgraded late last year) sometimes does not handle so well, but it is getting better, and I can say that after doing work experience with them for a week. Everything is totally different for the forecasters now, they have to work with entirely new procedures, and some of the forecasters (no names) really dislike the new system, and with everything going on at the BoM atm, IMO they forecast well most times.

Nicely said Jake.
The low was always going to be a dynamic situation. I posed the question last night as to whether it could come closer to Melbourne as you never know what these types of systems can do.

Am just disappointed that the Northern areas didn't get a nice (or nicer) follow-up from Monday night.

Bring on Fri-Sun!!!

At least the showers (isolated as they are) are penetrating inland.
Looking forward to BOM forecast for Fri/Sat/Sun.
00z GFS has slightly downgraded the weekend and reduced the LI's for Saturday. A person from BOM was interviewed about the weather for saturday. He suggested the SW through Melbourne between 1500 and 1700 on Saturday.

Edit: Forecast out now. Friday looks really nice. Going for scattered showers, tending to Rain areas. Very Happy

Yeah Friday looking good now with rain areas about, should be a nice wet day hopefully. Winds will be pretty strong from the nth-nth-west so nth slopes should do alright (10-15mm).

Im glad you enjoyed your time there, did you make a general post about it?

Many of the forecasters have openly said on ABC radio that they are not fans of the new system. Every day is new data so it can only improve.

A great looking sky late this arvo, some low chunky showers and some weak towers hidden in there too.

The latest forecast is pure old fashioned melbourne spring weather.

Some really pretty Cu/Cb out there today with some great rainbows, but otherwise pretty unexciting. Lots of falls in the less than 2mm range today but that is about it.

Tomorrow strikes me as pretty interesting. There is quite a nice infeed of moisture ahead of the first front which will slide south. EC has pretty widespread 5-10mm across southern Vic so could be some decent showers (and even the odd rumble wouldn't surprise me). GFS isn't so interested (but then again hasn't been a star performer). This system strikes me as being not-dissimilar to that on Saturday so could be a pleasant surprise.

Friday into Monday looks like an doozie - perhaps worth a new thread? Certainly will want to rug up if you go to tbhe GF (and have all BBQs in doors). Should see bucket loads of rain/hail/graupel/sleet in the Dandenongs Very Happy
