Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
A series of passing showers here today with no more than 2mm so not much got over the divide. Still - lovely and wet here, the ground saturated and the dams have come up enormously so very happy with the last fews days! And they said September was to be well below average! Best start to Spring in years.
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Well right in the middle.. 7mm at the top of the little hill. within 5klm, of where they will build the next DAM (at karls Place).

Got sleet in Daylesford around 6.30pm, sleet and graupel at home about 8pm, no snowflakes this afternoon but a couple of stunning rainbows and Cb's......2.4C atm, all we need is precipitation now!!!
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
seen some pics on facebook of the wimmera river flowing through the weir. Dad phoned a pic of behind the hospital and the river banks full. lovely sight compared to a sick dry river. they might even be able to have a long forgotten fishing comp. fingers crossed.

My backyard is mud and water still from this afternoons deluge. I went for a walk around Lakewood to find 3 trolleys had been washed through the storm water system from previous days storms. The lake has risen about 1m in the past week and further rainfall potentially tonight could improve that. It is great to see.
Andrew, you were never meant to get terrific falls in the SW flow. The fact you have got 30mm from last nights rain is a bonus with a secondary burst. It has been a good run up there.
Showers more WSW-ENE at the moment, I sense a convergence band overnight, or maybe tomorrow that could be quite productive again.
4 days this week that have delivered more than 15mm at a time.

I was never expecting big falls today Karl, just 5mm or maybe a touch more. In the end I don't think i even scraped 1mm. Other parts of the state got a lot less than I was expecting as well the way today was hyped up from the outset. I thought 20mm plus was a good bet for some eastern suburbs today. At least a couple of mm would be nice overnight to get a dusting on the top of the mountain tomorrow but it's touch and go for even that atm.
The next chance for snow on Mount Macedon on a weekend will probably be 2034 with the way our climate is these days.

Had a pretty good snow chase up to Warburton and Mt Donna Buang this afternoon! The cold air Cb's looked awesome on the way up and I first got my first round of small hail just as i passed thru Lilydale..
Then as i drove thru Warburton the rain turned to sleet.. which soon turned to small hail again.. then turned into sleet and snow with hail! Here's a few pics from about 1pm onwards..

the low is actually moving northwest atm so you have a returning cloudband...um, returning.....only thing is that it's fairly well modified as it's returning from the Tasman rather than the Southern Ocean
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Another 11mm today, which I think made up of about 5-6mm overnight. The last 5 totals have been 10mm+. 74mm in 10 days, amazing. 95mm for the month, can you believe it??? A real winter feel today, so cold! I love the cold weather, but I reckon this is too cold. I suppose it's because it was 30C degrees only two weeks ago..

The melb catchments seem to be the focus of the wrap around, Sweet! Might get something here soon. Only scored 2mm and a couple of brief hail showers yesterday, sat watching the clouds go either side of me for a change. Still I'm up to 20mm for the system and 92mm for the month so no complaints!
Great photos too folks

Just on the edge of the stream heading up the Yarra Valley. Had 4mm more this morning - mostly rain but the odd brief spell of wet sleet. Going to head out to see if any real snow has fallen highers up (suspect so but doubt it will have settled).
Next 24-36 hours looks really wet for us with no let up in the stream showers. Should be at lest 10mm more and would rule out another 25mm.
Would be up at Donna Buang in a dash if the wife wasn't 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant

Had another 8mm so 42mm overall for the system, fantastic. And the best bit is the wrap around is focusing on the catchments today so they should see another 25mm today going by the latest Bom warnings..excellent news and about time we had some good consistent and dare i say it normal weather..

Gonna be slack today and give Macedon a miss. Great to see some great snow photos Hinzey! You've done the job for me;) Too windy to get good images actually, needs to be nice and still for snow landscape shots. Have already gotten my fix this year;)
I hope the wrap around does it thing and some dams start to benefit.

Had another 20 ml from 6pm till now. Constant heavy showers with 50k squally winds right off the bay.
70mm for the week for the week for me!
The stream showers are at 5 minute intervals and Im bang in the middle, each one is adding about 1mm.
Now we are going to get extraordinary spring growth and you all know what that means. Puts the kybosh on back burning for a month also.
Cant remember the last week as wet as this one for me. Bloody dogs dont understand the concept of rain so are driving me insane, they are used to being out walking at this time. Only the second time in 4 years that we have been rained in on a sunday morning.

Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Bit frustrating, seems the rain is doing the standard SW thing are delivering the goods to the eastern suburbs of Melb. I guess not much chance for improvements our way as it is certainly cold and windy at the moment.
Nice photos Jane, that Trentham sure looks like a nice place to live!. Had a look at one of the potential blocks yesterday and there is a possibility of a nice 'water feature/wetlands area' given the runoff and impromtu dam that was in the corner.

Another 13mm for us since yesterday morning, 7.5 of it from yesterday and the rest overnight and this morning. Very cold here, the dogs didn't want to get up this morning, even they thought it was too cold!

Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Has been dumping down since I've got up with another 5mm. Event total is now 86mm. Latest GFS has another 50mm for the next 48 hours so has got the potential to be one of the best events up here since Feb 2005 if GFS is right. Radar currently looks fantastic for the Dandenongs into the Yarra Valley and catchments - should be very good for runoff now.
BTW was snowing around Dunns Hill this morning - though mostly rain. Was up there around 8am and saw a few flurries come through at the tail end of heavy showers.

55mm in the past week here. Trying to nudge over 9C, the house is freezing.
Water catchments at 31% and rising with alot more to come.

Must have been right in the firing line for those showers as well Mick only 4mm's in the gauge at 6pm last night but just emptied a surprise 24mm's out of the gauge at 9am. Since then we have had a further 1.6mm's.

looking at the radar...looks like it's going to be a typical SW day where the showers pass everywhere but here.
Would I be the only one saying bring on some warmth now we have had the rain?

Pretty ready for some warmth Norfolk. Yesterday would have been a good day for it. But under the extremely dry (last 12 years) circumstances, I will take 8 degrees and hail!
But yes I reckon the next warm spell will feel great, and can you just imagine how much the grass is going to grow as soon as we get a sunny day.

Just got back from the Melbourne airport. Warrigal Road to Airport is all but dry and with pockets of blue sky. Dandy Creek is not far from Heatherton Road.
A wonderful 15mm since midnight after a cumulative total of 23mm for Friday & Saturday. Beaconsfield underpass closed and I not seen surface water in the near-by paddocks for a couple of years.

Good morning all, 5mm recorded here yesterday to bring our total up to an ordinary 11mm for the event. We went up to Plumpton this morning & the wind was shocking. Looks like we could get a few more showers push through going by the radar.
