Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Very attractive looking radar currently, and I am glad that some good rainfall is falling elsewhere than here yet again. We had 1.4mm to 9am this morning thanks to some showers last night. It is very windy here too currently, I would say gusts up to 60 km/h.
Once the rain areas move through central regions to eastern parts, scattered showers will develop in the west this afternoon and spread eastwards again. Isolated thunderstorms are possible anywhere across the state today, though I would give the areas with the best chance for a thunderstorm, the northeast, and all of the western districts roughly. Looking like an interesting day....

Think I'll re-type this as we only had a 5 minute shower before. Seems to be a bit of a donut hole effect over Melbourne at the moment.

Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Looking forward to rain and SNOW on the weekend - the fact that I have a dog show in Kyneton (20 minutes form home) means that it will snow heavily on Sunday morning and I'll be forced to do a backyard snowchase instead!! Anyone for coffee and cake at Redbeards after the snow melts on Sunday?
Well if there is a chance of snow we will be around, certainly up Trentham anyway on the weekend, as we have to keep looking for our new place but would sooner have coffee while the snow was there!

Radar looking fairly disorganised at the moment, light rain falling here but more annoying than anything. Patchy rain around the nth, looks better in the sth at the moment. Hope it thickens up soon or nth slopes won't do well, except the NE ranges. Hardly any wind here either.

7mm so far and 7C - watching the obs to see if the colder air makes it across today or tonight....there could be a few weather chasers around on Sunday - although if Trentham gets snow, Mt Macedon will get LOTS of snow and it's a couple of years since I've got some decent snow in the forest photos.....!
ETA: make that 8mm!

I like the look of the satpic now, plenty of northerly momentum developing on the western flank of the low and the front is standing up well, this one aint gonna slip away! the activity behind the initial front looks like being the best in a long time, showers will penetrate well beyond the divide over the next couple of days. Raining lightly in Cohuna, but only a mm or so yet.

It will be a tossup which way to go, up the mountain or accross the Trentham..of course if there is snow both days that won't be a problem . Been ages since something fell on the weekend so we can actually enjoy it.
Looking at the radar we are getting hammered at the moment...feel the need to leave early today...

Rain has finally arrived here, streaming down from the North West. Should pick up a few mm's out of this.

Its good to see more precip. coming out of these fronts/systems lately. And to see a flood watch for the NE for awhile is great.

Nice steady rain here now, looks like we should see at least 5mm out of this band;)
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Once again it was heavy just before the Thomson and then suddenly weakened off.
Rain has eased off here in Moorabbin but it was very nice to wake up to.

Fairly solid rain here - under the heaviest last half hour with 5mm since 9am and still coming down heavily.
Better rain still building on the trough to our west.
Wes (Sniper) reporting 7mm up at Eildon with further rain falling.
Raindrops here are enormous. Puddles building everywhere.

In the eye of the storm here in Kensington as the rain abates for a moment.
Some great rain to be seen elsewhere. Some deep and prevalent puddles around the streets here.
Can't wait for tomorrow.
Looking forward to 00z tonight..

Big hole over Melbourne last 1-2 hours. Hopefully the heavier stuff to the west can fill in.

GFS is really beefing things up again. 50-150mm for central areas. A bit ridiculous. East central and west and south Gippsland really going for some big falls.

needs to be a sw flow to gain the full rain bands in the city one would think now.

What the!! We can't even get a decent drop today and GFS is coming up with this! Rain has certainly done it's best to stay clear of the Melbourne area so far. Fingers crossed though.

Whoops, I was looking too far ahead. Still GFS is going with 25-100mm for central areas the next 4 days, with east central and west gippsland going for bigger falls. Still, substantial falls if GFS is even close. I'm going for my 20mm over the next 4 days. Anything else is a bonus.
