Trentham's up to 19.2mm since 5am this morning (lloks like we'll top the state at this rate!) and it's still raining up there!! Mt William is down to 1.7°C.

Looks like a half decent front heading right for Melbourne soon.

Just started raining quite heavy here at work, looking much better on the radar.

Looks like Melbourne will be in between the rain once again. Sliding south and too far north.

Yeah, the east are getting great falls. It's just started raining in Moorabbin, quite nicely too.
Still fizzling out around the Thomson though, but looks like the catchments near the Dandenongs will get a great top-up.

Bob I think you will find that the radar doesn't pick up the rain falling around the Thompson very well. Anything East of the Dandenongs is usually underestimated.
I would think that the Thompson catchment will be doing quite nicely.
Pooring here ATM, right under that heavy band streaming down from the NW, although lightening as I type. Still be up to around 7mm here since this morning and heaps more to come over the next 72hours! Love it!
No wait there it goes again, heaviest yet!

Thanks for the info, Luke
Rain has stopped here now. Great to see so much green everywhere outside.

not as heavy as it looks here but usually something that colour on radar would have it belting down. The rain drops are quite big but it's not intense at all. I was expecting to get hammered, all rain is good rain!!

All the heavy stuff has been to the south or to the north. Still nice nonetheless. Viewbank has copped the last two heavy showers and is approaching 15mm.

what a great sight to see so much orange. The western burbs can't take a trick atm though, but who cares, someone just a cracker rain deluge and that's bloody awesome!
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
So strange, it's like exactly from Melbourne - eastwards. Viewbank is really copping it today, every time I look they are under either yellow or red.

Havent seen the likes of this system for a while..water is seriously everwhere, flooding has to be seen to be believed..

not as heavy as it looks here but usually something that colour on radar would have it belting down.
I suspect there is a lot of bright banding going on with this rain event (large snow flakes coated with water which gives the impression of large rain drops and hence heavy rain). This is pretty common in winter rain band situation and also marks itself by peak intensities sitting certain distances from the radar (such as Viewbank). The rain rates are locally heavy, but not nearly as heavy as the radar is suggesting.
Even so, one very handy rain situation and still going. Should see lots of place top 20mm by 9am and then have Sat/Sun/Mon to look forward to. Should be a big boost for the dams

Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Just did a quick scan of rainfall totals (though noting they are building quickly).
Some of the best so far...
Lancefield 22mm
Blue Mt 20mm
Cardinia Res. 20mm
Pyalong 18mm
Bunyip River 15mm
Looks likes (about) 15mm in Ferny Creek and should be on ~20mm before this band clears. We might even crack 200mm for September 2009 at this rate!
