I think personally, its too early to tell, despite some great rainfall about. We could end up going back into a drier pattern next year, so, I'm not ready to say we are broken yet. But, nice question Mick! Wink

No Nowhere near it... 2 months of good rain around the state isn't going to end a 13 year drought mabye after 2 years of above average rainfall but thats very hard to ask for these days

Have to agree with Johnno, it will take several years of good rain to make up for 13 years of below average rainfall.

No, Not until Melbourne's dams are back over 50% and we can have our fountains back on, and I can water my pot plants when they need it!

What about all those towns back to Stage 1 from Stage 4 after years?

Obviously a short-sighted decision, but I have mixed feelings. We've had better falls this September compared to last year and this October compared to 2006.

Hope it lasts and we get good rainfalls in November. That month and December have proved helpful in the past with the amount of rainfall - especially in 2003 and 2007.

August, September and the first half of October has seen good rain for a lot of us which hasn't happened in recent years at this time of year. There is a lot of growth, greenery and dam runoff thanks to this little burst of rain coming at the right time of year for it which has a lot of people fooled a bit. Aside from that, as others have pointed out, 2 months of average to above average rainfall certainly does very little to remedy 13 years of generally below average rainfall, particularly considering we are still heading for one of the driest years on record if we don't get high totals in November and December. October so far is also heading towards being yet another very dry month for many of us so even our spring totals could end up low yet again believe it or not.

I think a lot of us have forgotten that our 'normal' pattern of spring rainfall before long term climate change took effect was to have very wet Springs with a lot of flooding and some seriously heavy and sustained rainfall at regular intervals. September and October often saw these extended spells of cool and showery weather with only the occasional warm day or warm spell. 2 months can often seem a lot longer than what it really is when we are seeing constant cool and showery weather but if it doesn't persist right through to the end of the month then you can end up with only half a months rainfall like we are potentially seeing this month.
