Looking more sticky tomorrow with storms about.

Well wasn't bad for me because I had AC running. I know it's not the best thing to do for energy usage having AC running at night but on nights like we've just had it is hard to live without. I have a very small unit in my bedroom that works really well given it is just working for my room so cools things down heaps even just running quietly. I guess though we generally don't get the extreme high 20s minimums here, no urban heat island effects or anything like that and of course 500m asl.

Incredible to see just 14C min at Geelong, they were in S/SW all night and now westerlies. No trouble sleeping for those bastards, lol.

Satellite showing the SW change moving through. Looks like a bit of SCu or some sort of low cloud coming through with it, humidity should rise throughout the day also, It will still be hot though even with the change but hopefully it puts a cap on temps before it gets into the high 30s or 40s.

Unless the SW change comes through soon Melbourne will demolish the hottest night on record (for Nov). The old record (3pm to 9am record) is 26.2C from 1901 with the 28.2C the lowest number overnight.

Very lucky that we are going to be in SW winds in central areas today otherwise the 40.9C hottest day record would also fall.

Should see a stack of records fall today across northern Vic, SA, and NSW today.

Not as hot here overnight, got down to 21.7c Just after midnight. It was still 22c at 4.30am, the northerly then sprung up and it jumped to 29c by 5.20am, The trough moved through and the westerly came in dropping temps back to the mid 20's. Now its 26.7c. Dont be surprised if the wind tends northerly later today though and the temp could then soar again.

It was about 24c here at 11pm last night, then it stayed at about 30c all night until earlier this morning. Now it's down to 24c again.

What about that hot night we had on NYE 2007/2008? It was 40c at midnight. That's what I call hot.

26.7C min for me at 7:30 this morning. No idea it was so hot! I was stuck under the doona with the evap cooling on, so had a great night's sleep! I didn't hear the thunder last night, but do recall the wind suddenly picking up and blowing dust against the window about 10:30pm.

37 here atm, which is the warmest in the state. Expect the change/sea breeze to arrive any time now so may not get much hotter. Very hazy with cloud starting to clear but atm can't see what else may be about.

30.9 here at present with a light westerly and no fires. Heard on ABC this morning that Mildura was sitting on 39 until 1.00am this morning and parts of western NSW didnt drop below a minimum of 35 overnight.

Unlikely south of the ranges today James, despite last nights rogue strike.
Tomorrow a much better chance!!

No storm charts as yet, but will provide them once available.

Hey Proteus, interesting to read that Gippsland Lakes is so hot as my 14yo daughter is down there this week re school camp. Cooler breeze hit here about 5 mins ago but only dropped the temp to about 30.6, nevertheless not as oppressive outside as earlier this morning.

I agree with Wes that there will be a better chance tomorrow. Some convective activity will be within view. The more widespread the better it will be for tomorrow. More of that in the other thread.

Temps over 30 near Geelong so we could peak nearer 35C. Anything higher and we fall into a storm risk this evening.

I agree Karl, we may reach a late max (6pm/7pm) if the Northerly kicks in. I think 40 is no chance, however as you stated 34-36 is still achieveable. Temps starting to rise rapidly in the Mallee after a slowish start. Even in SA, they are probably lower than expected at this time of day.

Not overly surprised by todays weather so far. The southerlies were always going to come through a little early and kill off the temps. I think everyone is right, IF and its a big if we get late heating and get some temps over 34-35 we may see a few rogue flashes. But not expecting much. Would like to see some activity in the morning, but thinking it will be restricted to afternoon at this point.

It seems to me the west of the state has just taken a while to warm up today. Temps seem to be steadily rising atm. Given Adelaides heat (39 currently) is there any chance we might get hotter tomorrow than what we are today? Either way, i would suggest itll be a warm night again.

I'm not going to post today' TS Chart as it shows only the NE section of the state given a "chance" of storms. Tomorrow is a different story, a chance statewide, with likely activity north of the ranges, east of say Seymour.

I will be offline all day tomorrow, so if someone (Karl Smile ) can post the chart if it is required that would be great.

Temps really cranking up over the border so I agree with you Dean, that NW will be getting to 42-44.

Edit: I just saw your post Karl in the fire section! Small but a worry!!
