I agree weird stats at present - due to SW breeze earlier today temp reduced to 30.5 but now back to a tropical 34.1

Getting nice and toasty out there. Still a chance for 35 around 6.30pm. Some incredibly hot air to arrive overnight tonight. John, I note you have put 26 as the min, I reckon that will be the bare minimum, very similar to last night.
Saturday evening looking good for storm activity, but that can be discussed in the other thread

When I got up at 4:30 this morning I couldn't believe my eyes. I didn't check any charts before I went to work and was expecting the day from hell. Thank god I was wrong. It's just hit 35c now but I was thinking low 40's for sure. The only lightning I don't want to see today and tonight is dry lightning. That would be a disaster that no one deserves.

very weird today started off very hot...then i thought it would cool down and then it got hot again...33.1 today, which did surprise me, as I was sure we would get high 30's. But the heat elsewhere is unbelievable it got to 43 in Adelaide and still is!

it's been a tug of war around the city today, hot, seabreeze, hotter, another seabreeze. I guessing that this latest seabreeze will die off around sunset and it will be a very muggy and hot night. I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of last nights efforts with the hot air mixing down again in the early hours of the morning.

Ugh, yuck. I can't wait for our air con to be installed - 12 more sleeps 32.6 here currently, about half the grass in the backyard has died off in the past week.

Hi Wes yeah I put that down going by the fact their may be an inversion earlier in the night allowing the temp to cool at the surface a tad around 11pm to 3am but if not and northerly kicks in earlier then the temp could wel be the same as last night even slightly higher

Re: Victoria: Heatwave November 13th-20th 2009
A stunning number of records have been broken in the last 24 hours. Blair at BoM is putting together a list which will come out tomorrow. This is one of the biggest heatwave events in southeast Australia's history (thankfully it didn't come in the second week of Jan when we would be adding 3C to all the numbers).
Today in Vic record high maxima's seem to have been limited to a small areas in north-central areas (near Kyabram). Should see lots of record minima tonight. We have been unbelievably lucky not to have seen records across the whole of Vic today as the air mass is extremely hot (indeed 850Ts are only about 2C colder than on Black Saturday!).
Back through SA the Adelaide record high has fallen and the Canberra high was just missed today. Is going to be a scorcher in the north and through NSW into QLD tomorrow, but the south of Vic will again be saved by a shallow front and a bit of cloud.
These events have the professionals I know shaking their heads in disbelief - this is the fourth BIG event in less than 20 months.

Re: Victoria: Heatwave November 13th-20th 2009
I know that there is a lot of significance within this event and the fact that there has been 4 events in 20 months. But this is no reflection on it being a record summer with 45C temps every week...but certainly not going to be a walk in the park on past summers.
Alas it is a stunning event. I am literally melting, had a gutful and need air con now!! But I haven't got it Anyone wishing to donate to the fun
Looking like the south could see a warm day tomorrow up to 35C early on with a very warm early morning. One thing that has gone in our favour is the second burst of southerlies so that may keep us a little cooler than last night.
Saturday will be much more humid and quite hot over the NE so there could be some records for consecutive hot days as well.

Re: Victoria: Heatwave November 13th-20th 2009
I can't give max temps now unless I'm home to monitor the readings as the sun is now hitting my south facing sensor in the late afternoon/early evening. Still I guess it was 34C here today judging from Ballarat and Kilmore readings (similar altitude to here). We ended up escaping today's expected extremes despite records falling all around us. Even Mildura only ended up around 41C when it looked a certainty for 43C-44C for many days in the models. Tomorrow looks very bad again but we should have increasing moisture and cloud with storms developing as well in the afternoon and a change fairly early in the piece so should escape the worst of it again. Still you never know, if the change stalls it could still be mayhem.
The weekend still holding and looking fantastic but I'll keep that for the other thread.
Grass still green here on our 1 acre patch. Surrounding paddocks have dried out quickly though, but still a tinge of green clinging to the range and immediate surrounds. A few flowering plants, in particular roses, have had their blooms destroyed by this heat. Luckily the plants are still healthy.

It would have been at least 34 up here today, got home at about 6 and it was still 31 outside and a little less in the house, dropped off a bit to a balmy 28 at the moment though.

Do we think we are really going to have another hot one tonight? I know it dropped fast but went backup during the night lastnight. just wanting to know if i should leave the windows upen, or stick to the aircon.
Sorry i had to edit that post....not making much sense today.

Yeah I think so, temp has jumped 3c in the last couple of hours, bummer. I opened up the house to let in some cool air but it happened so slowly I didn't realise because the room I'm in has air con.

Low of 21.1 @12.47 sitting on 25.4 @ 7am.
About to use the last of my tank water, 10,500 litres just isnt enough to water this patch with November rain totals of 1.5mm "so far, On knees begging for more" .

Was 29C at 2am in Ferny Creek. Did dip to 22C around 9pm and to 24 at around 6am. Once crazy temperatures are now just common place
PS Shell3155 have emptied my tanks to about half (need about 30mm to refill them now which I reckon is >80% chance).

Re: Victoria: Heatwave November 13th-20th 2009
Hoping for a tank top up here too, luckily the garden has been OK so far but will not last without a break from the high temps. Total tank supply is under 50% now, with a quarter left in the big one and would prefer not to start transfering water around at this early stage. Estimating around 20-30mm is needed to refill them, then I would be set for the summer.

wow, warming up pretty quickly, sitting on 33c already. I can see the edge of showers creeping in on the radar. DP's and RH are very low at the moment. I hope they get higher as the day wears on.

35c in Moorabbin and 37c in Viewbank.
Doesn't even feel hot. Looks like a beautiful rain band approaching Victoria from the North-west. Hope it soaks Mildura too.

just hit 38.1. As reading in a post, I can recall people saying we just dont get summers like we used to. meaning that we didnt have the many hot days, this is now beyond a joke.

Re: Victoria: Heatwave November 13th-20th 2009
just over 37c here and finally in a clear slot despite the haze. It's got the potential to get really hot now that the cloud has finally gone. I can't smell smoke so it must be a dust haze or a haze similar to that like last year which was sucking the moisture out of everything. It has no colour to it here and RH is sitting at 15%.
