18.9mm this morning, grand total of 65.4mm (60mm of that in around 8 hrs). Looks like that may be it for here. Spectacular rain event this one. Very Happy

The next event for Thursday to next Sunday looks extraordinary. I'm not game to start another thread for it though because as we know 4 days out and beyond is in the 'downgrade zone' but having seen this system well and truly deliver we'd have to be pretty confident.

The wind has gone strong SW. The Bay effect will be in full swing in Eastern Suburbs today... even more so after two weeks of hot weather.

We have passed the 60mm mark here as well, 18mm since 6.30am when I emptied the gauge. Fantastic result. Will be funny watching all the lawn mowers come out within the next couple of weeks when the grass really takes off after this rain.

Someone should have given Karl some advise and anchored his bed down, tipping he has had over the 100mm if Ive had 55mm and he's floated away hours ago. Off to play in the rain with pitch fork. Loving this Rain..

Partly cloudy, humid 26C here with the mid level clouds starting to back around to WNW (from NNW not long ago). We got 12.5mm rain overnight. Baro is dropping, 997 hPa atm.

Hoping the cooler air will kick off a storm with it when it gets here this arvo.

Like EC's take on things for next weekend (not supported by GFS).

Looking like I just survived!!! Only 81mm here so far with steady rain still falling. 3mm on Friday making it an ~85mm system.

Rain will generally ease this afternoon and we may see a glimpse of the sun later on before some drizzle and light showers develop tonight.

What an amazing event!!

Nice band of heavy cloud/rain sliding away to the SE out to our W, but its going to miss us unfortunately.

Guess our last chance will be the band of cloud out Packy way that seems to be heading more due E, presumably bringing the cold air. Sad

Certainly is! 60mm here in Elwood and still raining. Looks like it's the North East about to get the next decent pounding including Lake Eildon. Hopefully there will be run off up there with those higher rain rates.

Well it was never looking like Gippsland was going to cop a huge amount but 10-25mm in an event like this is quite good.

Coming down hard again. Everything looks very sodden!!

Are these guys not telling the full story here?

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/breaking-news/melbourne-gets-a-month-of-rain-in-a-day/story-e6frf7kf-1225801724596

Unfortunately not as much rain has fallen around many of Melbourne's catchments, including the Thomson Dam, which provides much of Melbourne's water, he said.

Latest radar image shows a different story for the Thomson.

Melbourne's catchments, Yarra ranges and the Yarra valley have missed out big time with this rain event. The totals I am seeing are mostly around the 15-25mm mark. Warburton, as an example, was sitting on 12.8mm for the event to 12pm. they may have had another 10mm or so since then though.

These sort of totals will not be enough for any run off into the dams after the extreme heat and dry of the previous week.

Still, that doesn't diminish the impact of the fantastic totals most people have had, it will greatly reduce water consumption with plants and public parks/gardens etc. not needing to be watered so dams remain steady at least and the general fire danger will plummet as a result of this also.

Still belting down here, despite what the radar shows. Up to 16mm since 9am and over 60mm for the entire event.

Gustly SW change has arrived, no rain, no thunder, but heard that Sale is experiencing heavy rain.

Temp has dropped from 28.5 to under 20 in a matter of minutes. Starting to rain a bit now so may accumulate a 1mm or so more on top of the 15mm that the system delivered over the past 2 days.

Pretty much in line with the model consensus.

Now to next weekend!

As Posted Last night Warburton was dry when I left last night at 10.45.
My brother in Wesburn had 9mm this morning compared to the ~40 here. Maybe they got a tad more just now.

Amazing system and amazing falls.

windyrob wrote:67mm here in hawthorn, can I break 100mm for the system? Twisted Evil

71mm here so our rain gauges are in sync and seem to be quite accurate. That's the most rain I've ever seen in this rain gauge. Quite amazing.

Snowd_on wrote:Thats great for Hawthorn, good to have a report from the inner east. Do you have a year to date total?

My year to date total is 464mm which is pretty much the exact same year to date as the same time last year (465.2mm). Still a poor year and need another 100mm to finish with the same amount as last year.
