Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
This is the thread for everyone's day to day comments and observations around the state. What was the weather like where you were today? Post your local weather details here or anything interesting or unusual that you have observed.
It is 17C here currently and mostly cloudy and cloud continuing to increase from the west. Got to 18.3C so far for a maximum which would be the warmest day here for a long time and just a bit crazy for late May.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Well back at home now after a fantastic holiday up in Cairns and Port Douglas. A wonderful spot and I reccomend it to anyone wanting to get away. It is still humid up there, and with the highs in the Bight it is triggering some onshore showers, but some good sunny days as well. I went snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef - one of the best things I have ever done. On a negative note though, Jetstar have some working to do since both flights with them (up and back) were delayed by more then an hour both times. On the way up they were late with paperwork, about 10 mins delay, then we had to wait on the ground for departures and landings for 40 mins... on the way back though it really wasn't their fault, the plane up was delayed because of fog in MElbourne, but then again it was delayed for 10 mins because of paper work and they had to get some other bloke on the plane to check something. The flight on the way home was very rough. THe seatbelt sign remained on for most of the 3 or so hours. Worst turbulence I had ever been on. The pilot said that he could not get out of it, the winds at about 33,000 ft below were just strong as thanks to that low up north. Anyway, a good holiday in the end, now back to reality. Lol.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Welcome home Power Storm, glad you had a great holiday except for the flights. Hope you had an awesome birthday too
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Perhaps worth documenting that Melbourne yesterday had its hottest Day between late May and late July on record with 22.8C. Would have gone for a swim at the beach if I wasn't so busy.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Thanks Rivergirl.
Well its blowing very strong northerly winds here now. Looks quite stormy as well, though no rainfall to speak of this morning and most of its still over in South Australia, shifting SE. Eventually it will start here, later today, just a couple of light showers to start.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Generally cloudy here today with strong north to northeast winds, tended more northwest this afternoon and tonight. Temperatures were in the high teens, around 19 for a maximum today. Rainfall generally stayed behind the SA border today as forecasted, though will move into Victoria overnight.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Well it was a partly cloudy day as forecasted. We had 21mm to 9am this morning, so a good amount there from the previous rain event. No rain since 9am apart from a few spots here and there driving back home as a new 'learner' driver. I scored 100% on my test. Temperatures today were around 17-18 here.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary

Max of 10.6C in FC yesterday. Plenty of fog during the afternoon/evening and a total of 3.9mm of drizzle (trees intercept a lot before it gets to the gauge in fine drizzle). Got a ripper shower just on leaving home this morning (~6:40) with icy drop is a few specs of hail. Very small though - not showing on the radar.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Further 2mm of drizzle and fog today in Ferny Creek. First cold day for May with a max of 9.7C.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Well I woke up to 185mm in my rain gauge overnight Can't think of an explanation for that, I'll blame it on the possums
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Looks to be about 20mm in Moe in the past 24hrs and still coming down hard.
Rained the whole way from Pakenham to Moe. Clear to the south however.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Strange day up here. Started with thick fog and drizzle which cleared by about 9am then returned for lunch and then cleared again. Max of 11C.
Can clearly see the rainshadow from the Strzelecki Ranges in the obs, showers then make it up though the Latrobe Valley into the southern Melbourne suburbs and then again up here we are rain shadowed.
Anticipate the fog to roll in again tonight.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
It was generally sunny here today after morning fog and light frost, though the odd shower appeared as I drove out near Warrnambool today. Light winds as well for most of the day, however it freshened towards this evenin a little, now it has eased back. I was freezing today, despite the temperature here being in the high teens like previous days, I am not sure why I felt cold.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
A chilly one up here last night with hill fog on and off - currently 5.9C with 95% RH and temp still dropping. Currently it's clear but a thick bank of fog sits ~100m down the hill - while in contrast its ~2C warmer 150m up the road and the humidity is just 75%. Anticipate the fog will move up as the sun slowly warms it.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Still foggy here vis about 200m, should lift soon to a mostly sunny day, got down to 6.7c last night, now 8.7c.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
No fog here this morning. I drove out to pick up my sister with my mum today for about 2 hours. At the moment I really like driving.
Generally sunny all day and warm when that sun hits you.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Another mild one in FC with 12.0C yesterday and 0.2mm of rain. Caps off the second driest May on record and also very mild for us with only one sub-10C day.
Despite the mild sunshine had dew all day in the garden as RH didn't get below 90%.
