Very crisp looking Cb's at the moment east of Broadmeadows here! Doesn't look to be much substance to them but they are very vibrant! I'll post some pics when i get home.

The colder air could support them a little longer once we go dark tonight but after 8pm they should all be gone.

Some ripping rain curtains to my NNW, lovely structure on the eastern side of them so I think I may get a sprinkle later.

Falls of 10-20mm locally not out of the question.

The radar is just atrocious! The observations here do not support what that heap of junk is indicating. Very frustrating.

I swear I heard a rumble before too!

Looking like a nice cell developing over the bay and towers galore towards the MP.

Another decent rumble here. Cell across the bay looks fantastic.

Luke that shower is coming for me. Please push it on!!!!! Moving at about 15kmh.

6mm at Viewbank and Plenty so far the highest with further rainfall in the region edging east and south.

Tipped out 2mm from last night, thought I might have got a bit more than that.

Yeah, the radar is really spazmatic. A nice dark base is closing in over me now.

Yeah the main radar the doppler always goes down when there is some activity around, shower just south of Moorabbin but they are all slow moving, dont think we will get anything here, temp down to 13.2c here so i expect everything to die soon.

The radar has a problem. The techs are on to it.

Cb's look great from the city - have to go outside and blow them just a little further east to Ferny Creek Very Happy

Don't you just love technology in the best of times Wink

There is actually a little bit of Cu out this way too, but it will not get anywhere. Best of luck to those out east, locally heavy rain could lead to flash flooding from slow-moving storms this afternoon and large hailstones are again not out of the question. One other thing is that the lightning tracker on WZ from past experience mostly picks up CG activity, not usually CC and CA. Also, I would not rule a strike or two out down in the far southwest this afternoon either from those locally heavy showers spawning thanks to the low and slightly unstable atmosphere down that way.

Well a lovely day here in Ballarat considering it is deep into winter now. No precipitation today. Sunny with some Cu development got to mid sized and some toppy Cjs but no base and rather fractious. As it cooled they collapsed. Another cold night ahead. Next event looks like Sunday will be a winter blast.

Well looks like most of the development collapsed soon after sunset in my area. A little disapointing but im sure we'll still get some falls around the east. Was some very impressive formations around 4:30 this afternoon extending from the eastern suburbs, sadly not enough heating meant we got now real fun. Karl will fill you in with the more optimistic version of what we saw this afternoon Razz

Hi guys! Thanks for letting me know about this forum, I was missing the in depth posts by a few people.

Thought I'd post a random picture close to sunset tonight, this was taken at 5pm just as I was heading to the car.

It's looking west from Doncaster Hill..

Certainly very photogenic convection today with the cold upper levels creating some really crisp glaciated tops. Of course the showers were few and far between and at the current moment are completely stationary. Radar was indicating a shower a km or two west of here but it is 100% clear sky where I am which shows the extremely isolated nature of the showers and also indicates how small the cells are. Unfortunately 18C is just borderline for a storm outbreak in winter despite the cold upper levels and up on the ranges of course (where convection is aided) it is cooler still so just the odd shower around.

Saw a few rain curtains very close to my area on the train home tonight and apparently we got another shower here today but I am too lazy to check the gauge.

Top fall from those showers today was 14mm in Lower Plenty so they certainly chucked it down locally. Would imagine quite a bit of small hail also with rather old uppers. Also look heavy along the Gippsland Coast ATM, but few gauges out that way.

Again tomorrow should see the odd shower about (though not of the thundery variety). The pattern the next two days is very messy with a col across Victoria - lows both to the NW and the SE.

PS 0.2mm today from an early shower and 11.7C (another mild one).

Thanks! It's great to be here! Smile

I've never seen that sort of rain curtain before (I think that's what it is), kinda stopped halfway.

I agree with Droughtbreaker, was very photogenic today, such a shame I only had the time as I was getting to the car. Sad

Hoping for a bit more rain this week, although not too hopeful.

Welcome Elise andJason to forum. Some nice pictures on here tonight.

Some great structure out there today but all diurnally induced. Certainly needed the extra spring sunshine.

Might be some local frost first thing.

Post  hillybilly on Thu Jun 25, 2009 5:31 am

Last day for this system, and like all the others not a lot of focus in the weather (nor agreement between models). EC suggests the focus for showers today will be central areas, LAPS the coast, GFS the divide (etc). Will be a case of watching the sky and radar.

Again with very light winds things will move slowly.

Best showers ATM sit through south Gippsland - guess the beach shack at Sandy Point is currently clocking up rainfall in quick time.
