WA low sequence 23-30 June

Post  hillybilly on Sun Jun 21, 2009 3:40 pm

Has been a very dry start to the year in Perth (about 1/3rd of average) but the next week is looking very active. First major low is likely to develop off on Tuesday followed by a very strong low passing south of WA later in the week. GFS has widespread 100mm+ fall in the sequence and even a ~200mm just south of Perth Shocked

Quite a significant band of rain offshore presently. Up to 30mm in Perth today is likely.

Totals have been surprisingly light on the coasts today (for such an impressive band). Just 7mm in Perth and the best falls just NORTH ISLAND 20.2mm, CAPE NATURALISTE 19.4mm, and CARNARVON AIRPORT 15.0mm. There is plenty more to come, but a bit of a slow start to the system.

Just a quick recap of totals for this system..

Perth has now had 12, 13, 1, 5, 10, 22mm so an event total of 53mm so far taking the month to a respectable 148mm.

Some rather bigger totals in the ranges and south of Perth.
