Didn't notice any fog this morning, temperature ranged from 5.8c to 18.9c, very light winds, max gust was just 6kts from the ESE.

A positively balmy 16.1C up here today. Almost not needing the heaters ATM.
Distinct smell of smoke around - guess DSE is doing a bit of burning off.

Very thick fog throughout the eastern burbs of Melbourne this morning stretching from the foothills of the Dandenongs to the city. Has even been thick enough to give a few place some "precip" with the roads quite wet.
FC sat well above it all.

A pretty substantial fog deck this morning. Quite expected really considering the easterly dip situation and time of year. I think it will clear from the north over the next 2 hours with a light NE flow.
Fog will be back tonight but clear efficiently tomorrow with a N drift.
May struggle to 20C

Fog to the rescue for Melbourne sparing us another ridiculous 20C+ day, in fact only 15C in the end, I was walking around in short sleeves this afternoon just expecting it to be warm every day, didn't feel that cold really.
16C at home, no fog here so the temp rocketed up unimpeded. There were a few spits of drizzle in Nth Melbourne early this morning.

Yeah very thick here as well this morning lifted to low cloud and started to break after noon. Patchy Middle and high cloud above this morning made it easier for the fog to stick around bit longer.

Amazing how quick the fog rolls in...when i leave at 2.45am it is thick ay home, then clear through Croydon down to Eastlink, and then starts developing a bit at Wellington Rd, then clear again all the way to Hallam. Then at about 5.30am its just goes nuts, the whole of Melb goes under! In the blink of an eye...

Plenty of fog here today and through most of Melbourne till late morning, even after the fog lifted there was plenty of low cloud, stratus and some strato Cu. Held temps down just 14.4c in cranny today.

Very thick though rather shallow fog through the outer eastern burbs this morning. Was actually closer to drizzle around Ferntree Gully. Fog had its top at about 200m so Ferny Creek sat 200+m above the fog in a rather mild and dry northerly (was 10C on leaving home).
Should clear quickly today with a decent north/northeast gradient wind kicking in. Then a few warm days - could well give some late autumn records a run.

Thanks Johnno.
Some very warm temperatures around today....
22.8C in Melbourne is the hottest on record this late in autumn.
23.9C at Essendon Airport is amazing for one week from "winter".
Likely to see some very warm minima tomorrow with it still 18C in Melbourne. If the cloud is slow to come in could be some more very warm day-time temperatures.

Speaking of fog, we were driving to Gippsland on Thursday night, about 6pm and fog was already starting to develop, but probably nothing to the substantial fog Thursday morning.
Re: Victoria: Cold nights/Warm Days. May 18th-24th 2009
Hottest night on record for May in Melbourne last night with 18.0C. Beat the old record of 17.9C in 2007 and 17.8C in 1947. Simply amazing to break a record like this so late in the month.
Re: Victoria: Cold nights/Warm Days. May 18th-24th 2009
Strange, because here it was around 12C and a gusty northerly creating quite unpleasant windchill on the train station. Got to Melbourne and it was absolutely balmy.
