Might get a bit higher yet with Mt William recording near 130kmh N winds. 100kmh winds moving into Western Suburbs in association with the precip over the ranges and further north.

Wild wild weather coming!!!

when is the thunder coming?? Rolling Eyes

i see some lightning being tracked up north, will this head down this way over the coming hours? - at least the air is quite warm so i would hope that helps things somewhat

Wind really?

I can hear a fair bit in the distance but right where I am and at this moment, it is light to the point of almost being calm. confused
A few drops of rain reaching the ground, mostly virga though.

James we will most likely have our best shot on the front which is still sitting off the SW coast.

The activity passing over the ranges and to the north is associated with 30C temps in SA and mid level instability invigorated by a little nocturnal cooling. Not much of that rain is hitting the surface.

Some slightly interesting temps around atm. 12C in Shepparton and 11.5C at Kyabram. 11.5C also at Redesdale. 11C here, 10.7C on the top of Mount William (1167m asl) and 10C at Ben Nevis (Pyrenees ranges somewhere east of Ararat, 875m asl).

In contrast 15C-18C in Melbourne and suburbs, 13.5C on Mount Dandenong. Interesting to see less than 1C difference in temps between here at 520m asl and Mount William at 1167m, and at the same time 2.5C cooler here than Dunns Hill at a similar elevation.

Winds i this area are getting very strong. Just lost a sizable branch from our gum tree in the back...narrowly missing our bbq area. Also hearing a few bangs and crunches in the distance suggesting the gusts are doing similar things to my neighbours. not looking foward to the peak wind speeds in the coming hours.

wind gusts are at the strongest at the moment here I think. There have been a few bangs outside as well, a few times it has sounded like something has hit the neighbours garage door!

Got wind gusts up near DJ and Robyn of 110kmh so it certainly will be a sleepless night with those tall Mt Ash roaring away up on the northern face of the hill.

Winds over the western suburbs still at 100kmh and continuing to extend to most areas now.

Loud roars coming in here now too at times.

Also quite a significant area of shower and storm development over E SA through Adelaide. This should be watched over the coming 6hrs.

from all the stats around the state at the moment this system looks like it's stalling a little bit but gaining strength at the same time. The sat pic has grown considerable overnight but once again the laverton radar is down. It's howling here, 18c at 5:37, baro still dropping rapidly. Storms out west are looking good and growing as they track east. Could be an interesting and busy day at work.

Geez it's terrible out there. All this bluster, and virtually no rain with it by the look of the obs. Just a lot of virga. We have too many systems like this these days.

A crazy night up here with some furious gusts through the trees. Heard at least three crack, crashs, booms through the night Rolling Eyes Fortunately no damage but should have a few months more worth of fire wood now. Would guess the 115km/hr gust last night at Dunns Hill is about a once per year event.

Few fast moving showers through here ATM but nothing recordable yet. Still think we might get 10mm here by tonight.

PS looks like the overnight record high minimum record will be bettered in Melbourne - the old record was August 16.2C from back in 1885 and so far the low is 16.8C.

Wild, wild night! I don't envy the people living up in the Dande's, trees are bending and twisting everywhere down here and all of our cafe blinds had broken loose from the straps and were banging against the pergola. Had a light sprinkle of rain half an hour ago but that's it, temp currently at 16.5.

Amarok, surprisingly the big gums along Kelletts Rd all look to be intact! As soon as I woke this morning I looked out to check on them, fully expecting to see branches down and/or trees, but while there's alot of debris they all look to be ok in our immediate vicinity. Wouldn't be surprised if there were some down further down the road though.

ETA: 106 gust recorded at 8am for Mt Dande Shocked

Strongest of the winds should be coming through the next 3-4 hours ahead and with the frontal passage. Bit of sunshine will see winds increase rapidly over any given area.

This is something you do not see too often....

Wow, what a day yesterday was. Went fishing off Stony Point at 7am. The conditions were pretty mint, a nice brezze and mild. Did a good 2hrs fishing off Flinders and then it changed. Howling northerly kicked in. Westernport went from bumpy to a washing machine with 1.5m waves. We lost our anchor which got wedged on a reef in about 7m of water. Trip back was adventurous to say the least. Was truly amazing to see what the wind change does to bay conditions. Ended up with a good catch of King George Whiting & Leather Jackets Very Happy.

Today looks a bit of a lottery except for the wind, however whilst posting this, conditions are relatively calm. To all those in heavily treed areas, please stay safe. Karl, look after those fangs mate!!!

It certainly is wild down the road Wes however the conditions have tapered back temporarily. I can see the highest gust I have had is 104kmh which is truly amazing!!!

WOW! Are we getting some serious rain here or what!!

Absolutely torrential stuff for the past 10 minutes or so, so heavy it is coming down in sheets and the wind is blowing spray through the air. Just eased back to solid moderate intensity rain now but I swear it was the heaviest rain I have seen probably in a couple of years.

8.7C so no exceptional high minimums here and also no severe wind gusts.

Good to hear Andrew!!! More coming too!!

Pressure gradient is pretty tight with Sheoaks having 50 knot winds presently with pressure down to 996hPa and Viewbank with winds to 35 knots pressure sitting on 1001.5hPa.

Could see some destructive gusts setup over the coming hour or two as that pressure sequence moves through ahead of the front.

Nice bit of rain here as well 8mm so far today and 8.5C in Woodend so that would be another 1500l into the tanks today. I am keen on rain to fill them so another 4000l to go as I have switched most of the water in the house from the mains.

I know we had high winds and some rain overnight as I could hear it, it started to come through around 11.30pm with the first few drops. Dunno about thunder/lightning but there was a sound of very loud corrugated iron wobbling Rolf Harris style. Could not decide what it was but was more happy to hear the rain on the roof. Plenty of wind as well today but that is normal for Woodend as the rain was far more horizontal than vertical so I would expect the gauge is not reading what it should. Amazing day yesterday warm and sunny, lucikly i did all the outdoors things before today
