Mt Dandenong sitting on 25 mil (an inch) for this event, since about lunchtime I might add, not too bad.

liking those totals (mostly..mick). Very solid brand of rain in Elwood....heaviest of the day so far. Agree re direction/movement of the cloud band Snipe. Cloud and rain have thickened moving across the bay moving east.
Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
A nice 'mini' rain band over the CBD now. It's been great with showers/rain persisting all day. It's been awhile to see an event that persists as long as this. These days they just fly through and that's it. Really coming down atm, Melb up to 12.4mm so I reckon I'm around 15mm. Will check later but a pretty good effort indeed.

12.8mm's here so far, a bit less than some others, has taken us over 400mm's for the year though. Still only 30mm's for the month here, a long way from the 86mm average.

Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
Missed out with this system relative to the rest of the state with just 8.7mm here, I suspect this had something to do with localised topographic effects and bad luck. Wet all around though with 15mm recorded at the Mount Macedon MW station and 18mm at Sunbury and also some 10mm plus falls locally on the northern slopes of the divide.
Very frustrating here when heavy showers miss us to the south by 10km or so, it happens a lot. The rain we did get was enough to make things nice and damp again. The loss of moisture from those few warm and dry days has more or less been undone now. Looks like most of the state got good falls from this so expect some good run off and dam rises.
Next week continues to look crazy, EC and GFS both going through the roof with rainfall totals.

Wow, just checked the gauge and I've recorded 21mm today, have to be pretty happy with that. Scoresby is only showing 16.8 though? Karl, how have you fared?

!0mm here at Yea - happy with that. Keeps things green a bit longer.
Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
17mm here for the 17th of September. Pretty massive fall for this day and age. Some great falls state wide so one of the better systems in recent times. Well done to David Brown, he pumped this up early and was pretty much on the mark. Still 30mm below this time last year, so still very DRY.

What area is that in? Apparently Melbourne's record September dry was recorded last year with only 12.0mm falling in the whole month. I think we've exceeded that, but individual areas would of course be different. This was an average across Melbourne.

This is for Hawthorn, inner-east. I only had 16mm last year for September but I am up to 38mm now but overall for the year I'm around 30-35mm behind the same date to last year and last year was a very dry year, so it's still very DRY despite this significant system. But any rain is good rain, lets hope the weekend into Monday and some of next week can help with run off etc.

My nylex shows 23.7mm in it so very useful and more than I expected. Was out this evening.
Sunny day to come. Watch those trees bloom.

Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
A very handy 26.5mm up here (given there was plenty of drizzle I probably missed a few mm). A very good fall - certainly happy with it. Up to 90mm for September which is about as much as we had in 2006 and 2007 and 2008 combined (well almost anyway ). Still 30mm to get to average.
Plenty of 20-40mm falls across central areas into the northeast. Top scores of 46mm at Mt Buffalo (all rain).
Signs that that we are now starting to wet up to the point of getting runoff. There was a bit of water flowing in gutters this morning and the odd puddle still around. Suspect we still need another 50-100mm to get the top layers saturated (which hasn't really happened for us since December 2007.
Tomorrow is interesting - looks like a weak low may form on the trough with widespread showers developing. Not heavy but could be the odd 5mm+ fall. LAPS has LI down to -1 in the early afternoon through central areas so could be a few rumbles. The low level humidity looks good - DPs around 10-12C on the trough so could be quite photogenic low based convection.
Next week looks wild!

Just a re-read on the rainfall here, 21.8mm fell with the rainband and 1.8mm with rain to 9am.
Nice settled day. Looking real wet too!!! Well the ground is,
I have seen many of these days like tomorrow come along and when they fire they can deliver. Wouldn't rule out 10-20mm even localised.

16mm all up recorded at home around Caroline Springs. Very happy!
The garden will certainly benefit from that very timely drink. Next week looking good as well. Bring it on!

Just a touch under 15mm here very happy with that. Can't believe Rockbank in the Outer Western suburbs had 33mm lucky ducks. Good falls as DJ mentioned from Central district through to the NE.
With a potential widespread 50-100mm on the way next week in the NE mabye even the odd 100mm+ up in the highlands there could be another flood watch after last nights rain wetting things up there again.
Tomorrow does look interesting with abit of warmth reasonable Li's & some low level moisture about could suprise a few people.

That figure is certainly amazing considering we are virtually next door to Rockbank here and got half that amount.

Was great to see the rain yesterday from 10am till about say 8pm last night. Scored about 9mm in total and was a good soaking rain which has done wonders to the gardens

A huge 4.8mm recorded at Thomson Dam (to 9am today).
Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
Melbourne water reported 10.6mm for Thomson dam even though the automated gauge reported 4.8.Sniper wrote:A huge 4.8mm recorded at Thomson Dam (to 9am today).
Time for a new gauge i think
So the next question is which thread do we use for tomorrow if it gets stormy

Let's stick with this one.
Great day today - can really enjoy the spring sunshine when there has been a good drop of rain and the dust has been rained out. Shame work got in the way of enjoying it.
GFS is now on board for tomorrow - not big totals, but enough to get the interest up. Looks like central/north-central areas are the place to watch with the trough coming through during the arvo. Expect something between 1 and 10mm (probably 1mm for me and 10mm for Karl going by recent storm outbreaks).
Re: Victoria: Statewide Rain/Storm Event September 16th-19th 2009
Great system was always going to be good, but didn't think it be THAT good.
13mm here GREAT fall and many folk getting 10mm+ in the end city folk had some of the better falls most with 10-15mm which is good.
Great to see inland getting a bit hoping more to come for them soon
Tomorrow looking ok but not great in my eyes, still few showers around and the odd thunderstorm. Good thing is though that things are moist now, most inland parts have Dps above 0c rather than well below so that is good.
Next week looking good hope it brings 10-20mm+ to EVERYONE. South should do well next week and NE, hoping the W NW can to. Sw looking at a very wet week.
