Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
HOLY CRAP!! As I was coming back from my lunch at 2:30pm, saw the storm - never have seen anything so mean in my entire life!
I totally ran back to the office and made it just in time for flangs, heavy downpours, power outages and an evacuation!!! Half of our offices flooded - that was not the best time to evacuate - with flangs and heavy rain galore! Bring on more I say!

Ok, easing off now, it's moved just to the south/south west of us. I am feeling very smug - I picked the kids up early from school *happy dances* The bell's about to ring...
Edit again: 12.5mm in quick fire time :O

All over here for now. Looks like it hit us head on, especially going by the rainfall figures (work is located west sunshine/laverton). After that I'm declaring our warehouse to be one of the best structually, not one drop or leak inside.
That next lot coming down from the north looks like smashing the North/North Eastern Suburbs.

Karl & I have never witnessed a lightning strike that close!! We had two flangs within 50m!! Mum was stuck in her car outside and almost got hit. Scary!! But such a good adrenaline rush. WOW!!!!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
haha karl, i predicted you'd almost be struck, check out your facebook profile, i posted a message of thunder at your house before the storm got there so hows that!
Well we seemed to get the edge of it here, i could see it was even worse toward karls and the city, there was only one really close clap of thunder within 1km of me - the rest were rumbling around in the sky
Very strong winds hit with it, all my christmas lights did a backflip and are in the gutter now GRRR, torrential rain but i think we were spared compared to other places, i could see the greenage clearly to the naked eye in the distance and such fast moving turbulent clouds
looks to be mroe coming later, will this keep on continuing right into the night? could be have more than a couple rounds???

Roughly what time does everyone think that next line of storms is going to hit Melbourne? One hour, two?

Just called the wife at home. She is freaking out. Visibility down to less than 5 metres. Wind swirling and rain coming from all directions. 158mm/hr.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Lily, looks to me like more of a thundery rain band, unlike the last line of activity. However this can change as the band is currently heading over the Spur and more elevated parts.
Arrival of this band looks more after 4pm as it has slowed a touch since passing Shepparton. Will be a fun time getting out of town tonight!!!

.5mm this morning.
9.5mm come down really quickly got to 32.6 @ 1.44pm today.
Had to run fast to get those windows closed, have a 3m x 3m full pain window but a tad too scared to get too close to it, feels like your out there, just not getting wet.

Impressive set of numbers there Mutley!!!
Warrandyte has also checked in 21mm in the last hour. That cell really cranked up over the NE Suburbs.

This is one of the earlier shots
And this was just before I had to duck and run - My house and Doncaster are somewhere behind that rain!!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Lily, thanks for that - I can see it although it doesn't look to be as nasty as this one.
Bellarine, I saw that on my way back from lunch, I was at Doncaster Shoppingtown, took one photo and bolted back to work (which was 5 minute walk from me). It looked as mean at that! Great work!

NICE pics Bellarine!! That was fun. I was in the CBD and couldn't see the sky. Argh it was so frustrating. Thanks for showing me that guster

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
I have a friend who lives close by who called with his heart racing. His carpetted garage is flooded, strange considering he is at the top of the hill. He also reports gutters overflowing, and not able to hold water. Pets are spooked - dogs, cats, rabbits. He said he has seen nothing like it before. He believes we had 20+mm in 10 minutes. Its quite possible that my rain gauge overflowed and could not cope with the downpour. (wish I was home )

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Im also stuck at work but was lucky enough to watch from the 25th floor of a building with uninterrupted easterly views. I watched the gust front racing south through the NE burbs with an impressive rain foot stretching out up to a km (estimate) in front through areas such as eltham, templestowe etc then totally engulf Doncaster Shoppingtown. It appeared to lose its obvious guster appearance at that stage and was overtaken by precip. Thunder echoing in the lift shafts was cool too! Reports from the wife in Bundoora was that the light show and thunder was intense (and she knows my standard for intense is pretty high!)

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Thanks for the report Brad. I was fearing something like that. Fingers crossed no damage at home and 2 smart dogs downstairs under cover.
Mutley, that line was pretty solid when it reached you so 20mm in no time is a reasonable call. This incoming cell is holding its line and becoming more of a squall line, as experienced by Alexandra.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
i got to laugh, you know, people have such a short memory when i hear time and time again "I've never seen it this bad before" - "this is the worst ever"...and whilst the weather can vary in intensity depending on the suburbs etc its actually very normal to get weather like this in summer at least once....every year in boronia we have had at least one or two episodes of flash flooding in thunderstorms and every time my garage gets flooded because of a faulty gutter, but i am pleased to say it didnt flood this time (since it was fixed)
