Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Cheers for the earlier welcome Johnno!! WOW what a storm!! Here in Box Hill North i have had 15.0mm's and most of that fell in 15mins with that massive supercell storm The frontal cloud ahead of the storm was spectacular, green and black colours, with alot of this cloud swirling up and down!! Was an amazing sight and when the wind came through, was absolutely ferocious and a couple of CG's only 2 km's away from me were so intense!! This storm has got to be up there with the DEC 3 2003 deluge storm
Currently here it is 21/82 and it is very still with light rain falling. Hoping that rain in NE Vic starts to filter down towards us
What an amazing month so far!! Bring on more!!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Been along time since I've seen this for these rivers :
Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
Victoria
Note: This Flood Watch is a heads-up for possible future flooding and is NOT a
Flood Warning
FLOOD WATCH FOR THE CAMPASPE, LODDON, AVOCA AND WIMMERA BASINS
Issued at 5:02 PM on Thursday the 26th of November 2009
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office
In the 24 hours to 9am Thursday rainfall totals of up to 42 mm have been
recorded over the North West catchments. Further rainfall totals of up to 17 mm
have been recorded since 9am Thursday.
An upper level trough approaching northwest Victoria will cross the State late
today and tonight. A low pressure system will move from the Bight towards
southwest Victoria late Friday. An associated trough will reach western Victoria
Friday afternoon. Widespread rainfall totals of up to 30 mm have been forecast
for the North West for overnight Thursday into Friday with isolated totals of up
to 50mm possible.
The North West catchments are wet as a result of last weekends rainfall. The
forecast rainfall may cause significant stream rises with the possibility of
areas of minor flooding developing during Friday in the Loddon, Avoca and
Wimmera catchments.
In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
* Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
* Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
* Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Contact the SES on 132 500, if emergency assistance is required.
Current Road and Traffic Information can be obtained from the VicRoads website:
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/trafficalerts
Weather Forecast:
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Cloudy. Rain and scattered thunderstorms, possibly severe with flash flooding.
Forecast for Friday
Cloudy. Scattered showers, increasing to rain later in the evening. Isolated
thunderstorms later.
Next Issue:
The next flood watch will be issued around 10am Friday 27 November 2009.
Hopefully will be a fun night.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Definitely has the V notch scenario set up for us tonight..convergence between both bands should hopefully funnel the activity straight through us during the night. Gone incredibly humid since the rain has stopped so wont be long before we see something here again, especially as the sun is pushing through the cloud again. And i just cant get over the strength an upper trough/low gives a system. Even though its logical it just creates mayhem..the guster at 5am this morning was exactly what i experienced in Se QLD..

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Nice work there Greg. Glad it kept up its appearance... However i though it would have been more definitive. Ah well.
Here's my pics so far today. As i said waking up to a nice roll cloud, but by the time i got my camera out of the car it had passed over so here is a shot from behind...
Chased it out to Redesdale, but it must have been moving. It was way to far in front of me for another pic, so i turned to nice sunrise, and a decent downpour to my SW...
.
Then onto line 2 for me today, this is the one that Smashed Melbourne, and is Gregs second lot of pics as well.
As it approached, Bendigo just got totally lost in the massive wall of white coming towards me...
And this is the Bendigo Creek 10min after the downpour. To give you an idea of scale there is a tent in the water from who knows where that was a 4 man tent. This portion of the creek is 18meters wide and runs 4meters deep to the walking path... And as you can see, it was nearly burting its banks even still!!!

Great photos guys... makes up for those who spent the day in meetings (watching the radar). Also welcome on board kennacan.
BTW here's a quick dump of the latest hydro obs. Some impressive numbers starting to build (sorry about the horrible format!). Looks like about 15mm at home - not to bad. Suspect the best metro falls are around 30mm near Eltham.
Such a dynamic system out there - really hard to know what to expect in the next 12 hours in Melbourne (my gut feeling says not a lot more, but will be interesting to see if the radar fires up). Meanwhile some heavy falls into the northeast and west.

Nice sunrise pic rikki, looks like Mordor from Lord of the Rings.
Had a major rainband come through earlier.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
WOW! What a day for central parts. Well done to all of you that scored a storm. We have had very heavy rain here at times but no thunderstorms yet, though a line of cells approaching my north now. Lots of development about however so things are going to continue right into the night and tomorrow! Stay tuned. Will have more thoughts later!
Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Well was an impressive even if short even in bayswater. Had some minor flooding in our warehouse after the guttering on the roof overflowed inside was very impressive to see sheets of water driven by the squally winds flying up our drive way, and visibility down to 10 meteres in the worst of it. Easily 120-130mm per hour rain rate in it, with gutters backing up in the street.
Was worried to hear a 17 year old girl was struck by lightning in rowville during the storm. Kinda glad i wasnt home, because knowing me i would have been atleast under the verander watching.
Both happy and disapointed it looks like my area is safe from any more activity for now. Not sure how much more rain my poor gutters could handle.

The things you see when you havent got a gun!
I went out at 2.45 for lunch and was able to see the space ship happening above, it was great, I had a view from end to end. Lots of green in the distance, flangs above and good rumbles. Didnt get a lot of rain with it where I was. It was just a hoot to know that it being so hot and humnid with that sky, a monster was brewing close by and I didnt have to wait long.
Perfect timing, perfect view, just forgot to take the cam when I intended to last night.
Great piccies everyone, captured it well.
Best storm to come down from the north for years!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Not suprised someone was struck by lightning out there. It was the most intensive CG flangfest I have seen in about 10 years. Insane insane insane.
Well we got hit by two lots of torrential rainfall and banked bigtime on it. The end of the street was flooded twice this afternoon which is a good effot. Over double the AWS to the NE of here and sitting on 44mm for the day. Really a brilliant result here. I dare say a km to my west had more than this and to my east and north had probably a lot less. A very very tight rainfall gradient.
Winds at the front of the storm were near 100kmh with some branches and debris down through the street. It was a colder breeze and thought there might be hail but the rain was just insane so I think it was too humid.
Plenty of time this evening for more things to develop but things need to recharge.

On the other hand, theres still a couple of days for the system to deliver the low in a location that could change things dramatically for those in the states SE. Good luck everyone (except wheat farmers).
Well we are off to a good start, 14.5mm in weak, but large area'd storm cell that arrived late arvo. This storm moved off the mountains almost from our due N, which is unusual for us, they normally arrive heading to the SE.
Hope to get some exhaust from further storms up on the divide to add to our "start" for this system overninght before the rain from (from what I saw this morning - havent looked at the arvo models yet) two low pressure systems in 3 days.

An amazing, very defined line of storms heading east in Southern NSW right now. Check out the radar, it looks unbelievably intense and would have to have some massive winds in there.

Some big towers going up to my nth/nth-west, really starting to look like things are starting up again. Nth-west Vic is starting to fire up, GFS has LI's of -4 around 8pm tonight through NW vic. Things should them move towards the E-SE. Still looking good.

DarkEye, you will see mainly light activity overnight, unless cells currently well north of the coast decide to track south. Tomorrow afternoon into Saturday morning will be your time. Some severe storms around your area on the cards tomorrow!!
Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Just got smashed by heavy as rain for about 15 mins! Amazing stuff and fresh convection to my northwest and west atm. My night still is looking fun, hopeing for some storms but tomorrow here will be my best bet!
