Any reason in particular AmaroK? I think there is still quite a decent chance, humidity is good.

Really need it to start firing closer to home to our NW...still touch and go. But it wont be thru lack of moisture...genuinely disgraceful outside!

dont forget the radar is very weak and blocked up north, so if its showing that much cloud where it is now, you can bet its actually much thicker in reality

lightning is still keeping its intensity, so i think there is still a good chance of something

My biggest fear is that it will miss us by the smallest margin, just like losing a game of footy by 1 point! haha, I don't want that too happen, but I guess if that is the case I can see some lightning.

The line is starting to come into 256km range now so will start looking nastier hopefully. Radar up this way can be disgraceful really. Can remember last year getting 40mm in 1.5hrs and only had light-blue on the radar. If I see red on radar around here I will get ready for hail. Very Happy

Im actually starting to like what i see following this first storm band...we could end up with a fair bit of rain overnight and tomorrow. And both radar and satelitte to me are showing a little cold air signature...if thats the case it might be an eventful night after all. But i still need to see cells develop ahead of this first band...

The line is moving at roughly 80km an hour and at current pace will be in Lilydale in 3 hours, city in 2.5 hours.

Hmm not sure if it's worth going for a drive anywhere to far, looks like there's to much rain infront of the lightning activity?

Do they know something?

Down in Sandy Point for the next few days so a change of scenery (Sandy Point is just north of Wilson Prom, BTW).

Strange arvo down here with sea fog blowing in from the east. Was really thick in the hills around Fish Creek.

Pretty clear central areas will get the approaching band but in what form... suspect it will be on the way out and drop just ~5mm maybe 10mm if your lucky. The timing is all wrong and the trough is just starting to tilt to much which will kill off the upslide. It is a close run thing - however - with the southwest likely to see 20mm+ overnight and probably the odd fall nearer 50mm.

I think tomorrow arvo looks much better in central areas with a second trough coming through in the late arvo.

I disagree Smile Lightning is so active all the way up to the top of the state that I think the band shows the hallmarks of a significant line of storms that will last until it runs out of heat and moisture to eat up. Watch the NW quadrant near Donald start showing up better on the radar as it closes in...

I like the enthusiasm too, but we are only going to see small totals, it will be minor if it makes it here..there is nothing kicking off ahead of it so its just this and wait for tomorrow.

Tomorrow could be a great day..

I think we can say the storm is officially going to hit the CBD now. Doppler picking up extreme winds.

Thanks guys, yes I don't think we will see all that much rainfall, but extreme winds, lightning, thunder etc should be witnessed by many, so we will get 'stormy' conditions, but maybe without the rain that is probably the most important thing for us right now.

Post  droughtbreaker Fri Nov 27, 2009 6:28 pm

I've been watching Accas increase through the evening ahead of this band. I'm still concerned that the band might fizzle out before reaching us and just deliver a light to moderate rain band as that's what GFS and EC seem to be saying. I'd like to see it get a bit of a move on, most of the movement is north/south atm which is frustrating, it would be good for us here if it hits but it has to hit and that's the thing.

Big temp contrast today from when I was at Melbourne at around 5:30pm and when I got home around 6:30 pm. Only around 23C here at that time but 29C in Melbourne just an hour earlier.
