Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Missed out for the most part today (1mm fell as I drafted this reply). Many showers passing to the west and north of here. A couple of dark clouds passed overhead only to dump to the North. Not complaining though. We get our far share.
This event has provided us with 25mm (however I suspect I missed 10+mm on Thursdays storm). The event has taken the montly total to 83mm & yearly figure to 572mm. We have recorded 80+mm in each of the last 3 months (September, October and November). This compares to a total of 171mm in 2007 and 125mm in 2008 for the same period. Perhaps things are changing

A SE wind change is coming up the bay now, about to hit Moorabbin by the looks of things. An associated convergence line of showers with it.

Oh and they are bloody heavy. Rain roar was heard 2 minutes before it hit. I thought it was hail but just torrential rain. Just when you think it's finished. 3.4mm here in as many minutes and still coming down nicely but backing off slowly. 16mm for the day here and more coming up from the SE. Surely the eastern suburbs can't do better than the west!!! Hope it grows for you up there. Amazing!!!
I cannot beleive we are getting this rainfall in a SE stream... Are we in SE QLD because these showers remind me of Noosa!!!

We won't get the convergence line here but hopefully some stream showers tonight to keep things ticking. Yet to be seen though if it comes off.
Humidity is still very high with double figure DPs and mid teens temps around Melbourne.

Just started raining here again too.
Will give my few trees a good boost so they can grow more for shade in the summer.

Nice to hear that B, hope it can get Melbourne to 100mm for the month.
Just slowing now. Had 7.4mm out of that band and sitting on 21mm for the day and about 90mm for the system!! 183.6mm for the month and there is water everywhere through the backyard!!!
One more band of rain coming through Bass Strait may increase as it heads into warmer waters. Another 10mm is not impossible.

Another 4.5mm here this afternoon/evening, bringing today's total to around 7mm. Let's hope we can get a couple more sprinkles overnight
Garden is going to go crazy with all this sun, rain and humidity!
Melbourne radar says it's down for maintenance until 4pm tomorrow. AP radar hasn't updated in ages, anyone else getting this?
Edit: Karl, we didn't get anywhere near that amount of rain or for that long! It stopped here to a slight drizzle about 15-20 minutes ago. Local hoons are enjoying it though, screeching up and down the road

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
AP radar on windfinding and will be back at 11pm.
Rainfall gradients are extreme today - hence why I have had 21mm, Lily to my SE having 7mm and the AWS to my N having 10mm. Another example is Montrose 1mm and Mt Dandenong about 3-4km away having 15mm.:
Edit: Lily you may be more E than SE from me. I cannot beleive that noone else gets this rainfall. It was enough to get my sister out of bed going what the???? From nothing to whiteout for 5 minutes!!!

Karl, do u have some kind of topography that helps your rainfall? Or other factors?

Yep some great rain ticking along nicely here in Elwood hey Blackie!? Do you have a gauge?
Been coming down nice and steady for some time now. Certainly would have gathered a mm or two in this stint.
Might even nudge the 30mm mark (event total) by tomorrow morning if this keeps up.
Karl, I would also be interested as to what type of rain gauge you use?

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
I think it must be topographical. I'm near the bottom of the Lysterfield hills (on the quarry side and very close to the retarding basin at Heritage Way in Lysterfield). Karl, from what I have gathered from your posts and pics over the years, you're somewhere near Carrington/behind Bunnings, not far from Mother in Law who is in Rodney Dve. Where I am is at almost the bottom of a hill, then it rises up again to the hill on Napolean Rd, drops down in a valley then rises again to the Glenfern Rd area then starts rising progressively into the Dandenongs.
Karl on the other hand is pretty much on the edge of a basin, literally only a minute or two from the lowest lying land in the area (Monbulk Creek runs through here) surrounded by the small hills where I live, the Dandenongs and Wheelers Hill.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Nylex and one I got from the BOM many years ago. Nylex 1000 which is on my fence - 6m clear radius.
I have no idea why it has rained so much here. Maybe I should stop until others catch up.
BTW many areas got much more than me yesterday into this morning here. Cardinia had 27mm to 9am and many areas north of me got more so it doesn't always happen.
Thanks Lily. Spot on. I am in a very wet basin. I live on the old wetlands of Knox and the reserve at the end of the road was a marshland.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
sure is JC. My gauge was showing 21mm (for weekend) to just before this current deluge . Too wet to go and check still but feels like 3-5mm + since then and still moderately raining.
Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Well, I have a sneaky suspicion my husband has bought me a weatherstation for Christmas, so soon I'll have two gauges to compare with you Karl
But shhhh, I don't think I'm meant to know so it's our secret, ok?

Easing off here now. There was 5mm in it though in 45 mins! Frustrating with radar offline. Not knowing what's to come...or not.
