Provide the winds stay northerly rainshadowing shouldn't be such a problem for us in Melbourne (it tends to be much more of a problem in NW flow).
Still pouring through the west with Mt William now on an event today of 50mm
and lots of 30mm+ totals. Just a shame this can't last all week.

Still looks like the West will fare best, but i wouldnt right off Central areas from getting up to 20mm, the main feature is that the slide is happening much slower than normal, so if it can park itself over us later today without the usual light speed dive we could still go OK..

Rain needs to fall from the mid and lower levels for us to get 10mm at least.
Looking at 70mm for the western ranges.

Yeah I agree with Karl still can't see more than 5mm here between Baccus Marsh/Melton way and the Eastern suburbs we need to score a storm perhaps for it to happen. But I'm holding out hope of getting at least something.
Excellent falls out west especially in the Wimmera. Great system even though it hasn't rained here and if it doesn't I still consider it being a great system cos finally were seeing good falls where its needed. Hope though it can make it to West central areas who are in dire straight as well were probably as dry if not drier than some places of the Wimmera and Mallee so far this year.
Cheers, Johnno

Some big totals now starting to accumulate. Mt William up to 67mm and Stawell up to 56mm. Both places will soon be at their monthly average! Fantastic to see with the dams out that way nearly empty - must be some nice runoff happening into farm dams etc. Could well crack 100mm before its over.
Rain should be into Melbourne in the next two hours - not expecting anything like that which has fallen out west, but certainly 20mm would seem a good chance up here IMHO.

Very healthy rainfall about and now the northern slopes should get the bulk of the falls. 30-40mm over the Central Ranges over the next 8hrs.
Looking not too bad now.
Few thundery patches in the west with convergence between N and W winds

Well fantastic falls for the west of the state. I must say that this event was picked up early by some people, and they got it spot on. Must admit it does seems sad that the good rain is breaking up over central Vic, but looks great over the Northern Country and North Central, where the bulk of the activity should be from now, heaviest falls now anyway. Isolated showers will continue over the southwest.
It has been raining here for all of today, quite heavily in some spots, but not sure how much rain until 9am tomorrow morning, obeying the rules since I can''t be bothered going out there now in the rain. Looks as if there will be further rain here this evening until about 9 or 10pm and still the slight risks of lightning about, lesser extent now to this morning.
*On another note, not with this sytem, but whilst I was in Cairns, we had 30mm of rain. Pretty good, but a lot of other areas need it more.

Mt William up to 74mm and still raining
Also moderate/heavy rain falling on the northern slopes in central Vic.
Predictably not as good in south-central - just 1mm here so far. With a few brief heavy showers.
It's pretty clear that the mid levels wind are going more westerly and as a result weakening the upslide and accelerating the rain-band. Western district have been very lucky with this system - just in the right place at the right time.

Powerstorm should get your dad to buy a Weather Station - he could write if off on tax! We get lots of days in Ferny Creek too wet & miserable to check the manual gauge so a wireless station into the kitchen works a treat.
Still light rain up here and waiting for the rain to push over the divide.

Haha, yeah mate. We did have one, but the rain gauge part stopped working for some reason. I took good care of it I thought
I record the rainfall for the Bureau of Meteorology, so I have to do it the pro way not using a WS.
Cheers, Jake.

Came home to heavy rain with puddles everywhere, roads are very wet, was concerned about aquaplaning on the way back from the station to my place.
12.5mm so far, looks like more showers here than actual rain areas but what is falling is heavy so quick fire totals likely.

Good to see you have had some handy falls Andrew. A little more for you would have been better though
We have had 18mm to 5:20pm.

Liking the look of the radar atm with some more orographic showers developing on the windward side of the range, in fact as I speak we are getting another brief shower. With the very moist atmosphere out there these showers really are very productive. Definitely a chance through outer eastern suburbs for totals to accumulate in the next few hours but it is fairly decent right across the great divide atm.

Managed to pull 55.2mm out at the airport here (Horsham AWS) and 44.2 out at Longrenong, all since about 4:30am and 6pm!!! Just what we needed.
Now all we need is some follow up in the next few weeks. Any chance of that?

14.7mm in the end with a few more mm left in the main rain area after I looked at the gauge. Would love ot get another 5mm to make it to 20mm although the next band of rain looks like it is slipping south.

Only 2mm here in Ferny Creek. Hillybilly if you got more can you let me know. I bought a weather system last month and it's wireless but I wonder about the accuracy of it especially the wind, it hasn't registered more than 7kph and it's up on the roof. I know that wind reading is very wrong
Congrats to everyone out west that did well, even Mt Macedon, fantastic news especially the farmers

14.5mm for this system Great fall and just was the crops needed! Now if we could have one about the same or bigger in a week or so it would be perfect!

Not sure about a week mate, but some nice sunny days at the end of this week and early next week will get the grass going in some spots and then perhaps some more good rain mid-late next week.

Re: Rain/Showers - Victoria: Saturday 23rd - Thursday 28th May 2009
That would be just fine Jake! Yeah some sun to keep things going would be great too. We already have plenty of grass around thanks to ANZAC day so this will just keep it booming along! Pity we don't have many sheep on but that can be fixed. This will boost subsoil moisture further so will be close to getting me through to spring if worst case no rain.

Re: Rain/Showers - Victoria: Saturday 23rd - Thursday 28th May 2009
Ended with 9.8mm for the "event" ~4mm in the initial rainband and ~6mm from heavy showers overnight. Bit frustrating to watch the rainband slowly shift from moving north->south to north-west->south-east which marked the transition from good upslide to minimal upslide. Missed out by 50-100km on a big rain event.
Pretty poor event overall around south-central areas, but fantastic across most of the west and north. Looks like one of the better "winter" systems in a couple of years.
Should be a few showers in the south next few days - and even the chance for the odd hail shower.
PS wrapped to see Macedon do well for a change Andrew, Rivergirl how much did you get?

EC has a significant event next week as does GFS. UK is also onto this event. Of course - could all fizz!
Re: Rain/Showers - Victoria: Saturday 23rd - Thursday 28th May 2009
Well until it significantly rains in the physical realm here in Melbourne rather than on the prognostic charts, then I may get more excited. Look like the west is going into a wetter period. Could be more useful rains for you Paul
