OK not Vic but worth putting in the archives...
Thanks to Blair...
Canberra's max yesterday was 4.1C (in the suburb of Tuggeranong it was 2C) - off the top of my head this would be the coldest day since 1966 (although I don't have the exact number from 28/5/2000 to hand). I suspect it is also the first instance of all-day fog since 1966.

Howling wind early this morning, chill factor there as well whilst walking to the Milk Bar. Noticed that there was little moisture around.

Amazing David.. if I remember right it was above 4c in May 2000 but only just may of been a high 4c or 5 but don't think it was as low as 4.1c.
Yeah Mel still cold but think we will hardly get any rain today just doesn't seem like a 'rain' type of day

Nah I agree there, not much of a chance for rain falling. Heaps of Virga around though

Interesting facts in here.
Well some light rain at times today and fairly windy northwesterly winds. It made for an interesting drive to Warrnambool today.
No rain to 9am.
Jake.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Big warm up here today with a max of 12.2C. Sunny most of the day, and more like spring than mid winter. Today's temperature was double that which I recorded on Wednesday

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Today infact there was quite a good chance for isolated thunderstorms to develop over the south. There was quite an unstable atmosphere today and with a pre-trough type set-up there was also moisture available to pump something out. The clear skies that were available today also could have got something going, but in the end I guess nothing occured. There is still the risk for isolated thunderstorms tonight about the southwest mostly.
Stormy looking today with a few convective cumulus towers going up at a family friends 40th place. I honestly thought there was something going to pop up, but not yet.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
It takes a lot at this time of year to get thunderstorms from diurnal heating in an unstable atmosphere. You really need a sharp upper trough or low overhead to provide a decent trigger and that is relatively uncommon, today we had a a bit of an upper cold pool over us that was associated with the cut off but nothing major at all.. Surface temps are just not warm enough to set up a sharp lapse rate and there is not enough precipitable water with the colder temps. That's my opinion anyway.
12.1C max here, certainly a mild one for early winter but given how cold it has been the last few days we were due for a mild one.

Your right Andrew, I was just pointing out that the possibility was there.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Needed to get to about 21-22C today for anything significant storm wise to develop, however at nighttime things change and anything is possible in these situations.
Some decent thunderstorms off the Gippsland coast which will swing onshore to the C and E coasts tomorrow morning.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Today was similar to yesterday IMO, well for here despite the upper disturbance away from the area, we had afternoon convection and locally heavy showers this afternoon too. Some of the cumulus looked as if it would continue to grow, but of course it was probably to cold for that.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Another weather free day in Ferny Creek (and most of Vic). A mild 11.2C this afternoon with a few Cu in a light SE wind. Is shaping up as a boring weather week for us.
Appeared to be a few spots of rain (going by the car which was damp) but nothing in the gauge.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Was very foggy across the state today, even some light frost about too, not to mention the low cloud. The fog and low cloud lasted the entire day here, which was cool in its own little world considering I hate cold days. The temperature barely made it to 10 degrees.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Fog and low cloud kept the temperature down all day and the range was from 3.2c to 9.8c, it was the coldest day at my place since 21-08-08 (9.0c)

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Well yesterday and this morning saw fog and frost, but today the fog persisted until about 1am. Generally sunny after that but freezing unless you were right in the sunlight. No rainfall.
Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
Was a sustained thick fog through the night out this way too but strangely quite clear through Boronia North too about Croydon. Persisted to about 9am before burning off with the help of a 10kt Northerly.
Visibility was down as low as 50m here.... the worst I have seen in a few years.

Re: Melbourne and Victoria daily weather commentary
From Melbourne water whats happend for the week 12th June to 19th June
No rain to make most of wetter catchments
Virtually no rain fell over the major catchments in the past week, failing to capitalise on the good falls of the previous week.
The catchments received just 2.3 mm of rainfall, much lower than the long-term average for the period, 22.3 mm.
Consequently, the 3.6 billion litres of streamflows into the major reservoirs was well down on the average for the period (8.6 billion litres).
With catchments wetter from 40 mm of rain a week prior, the dry week was a missed chance to boost storages.
However, low consumption continued to slow the decline in storages, which dropped by 0.1 % (2.4 billion litres) of total capacity.
Storages are now 25.8% (456.6 billion litres) full, compared with 29.4% (522.1 billion litres) at the same time last year.
Melburnians achieved the Target of 155 litres each a day for the 15th week in a row, using an average of 136 litres each a day.
More information on restrictions and tips on how to reach the target are available from Target 155 or by contacting the government water retailers.
Stage 3a restrictions and Target 155 are currently in place.

Crikey it was cold this morning, my windscreen froze up about 3 times whilst throwing 3 buckets of water on it. Nice frosty patches around but quickly went away when the sun popped up. Glorious day otherwise

A dull looking day at the moment, with no sign of rain from these darkish clouds.
What makes me sad is the radar images of Adelaide, Sydney & Brisbane.

Good to see some thunder activity around the border area (Vic & NSW) be interesting to see how far South these might extend.
