Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Not quite the most exciting weather but the next few days look very foggy for the SE. With the upper trough sat right across the region with cool uppers and the surface ridge dominating some of the fog could well last all day, particularly given the solstice is only 5 days away.
Very foggy in Melbourne's east ATM tending to drizzle in parts. Fog was (about) 200m deep about the Dandenongs - top of the stratus at 250-300m.

Hi DJ,
Very foggy this morning. Wet roads here this morning. I cannot see this clearing until later when a southerly develops.

The sunny days will do wonders for my newly germinated tomato seedlings. They are in my greenhouse that easily gets to 25C when the sun comes out at this time of year.

Hope you have water tanks Mantis - not looking good for the dams ATM.
Already down to 7C up here and humidity at 95%. Very dewy and will soon be fog in the valley.

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Used to be a big fan of fog and frosts but these days it is just another by-product of the drought. All it means is dangerous driving conditions and gloomy days. No fog at all here this morning but certainly 8/8 heavy stratus with sprinkling drizzle briefly. The entire mountain was well and truly hidden so the fog level would have been around 600m.
7C here and 8/8 stratus here as well. Certainly doesn't look like frost developing.

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Mix of fog and low cloud here all day. Was a fantastic thing to see, because it usually does not last the whole day here
. Looks like it will continue for the remainder of the week with frosts in amongst it and then some rain producing systems from the weekend

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Up here in Ferny Creek our temperature and humidity have been going up and down as the inversion wobbles - we have very deep fog (would guess a stratus deck about 250m deep) about 50m below our house ATM - when it has pushed up hill the temperature and dewpoint have risen to ~6C, while as it lowers the temperature and dewpoint have falled to ~4C - it wobbles up and down the valley for no obvious reason. Meanwhile 150m above us its mild and rather dry on top of Dunns Hill with 6C and dewpoint of 4C.
Mt mesoclimate can be very interesting in winter...
DJ
PS Fog has just run up the hill and is now enveloped the house.

Minimal fog here so far this morning. Light NE winds. Could see the deck of fog to the north, south and west earlier.

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
It was relatively clear and surprisingly mild at home this morning. However once on the train to work, the fog increased and the temperature dropped.
Hopefully this will clear into a beautiful day.

Has been the most magical morning here in Ferny Creek, I've been taking photos for the last two and a half hours lol of the sun streaming through the fog at my place. It's just gorgeous

Yes we have 22500Lts of rainwater so plenty for the vegie patch. Our dams in the grampians have risen but more is needed for sure.
The pipeline here is saving a lot of water as well

Been watching the fog roll in the last couple of nights. Looks great in the parks and ovals around Burnley, also looks peaceful as it lays on the Yarra River. It's the only joy working outside doing nightshift this week.

Out near Macedon ATM for work. Fog rolled in here last night at about 8pm and a literally freezing morning ATM. A hard frost and a minimum I'lld estimate at about -1C.
Looks like yet another mild sunny winters day ahead.

Those poor people on that plane. Thanks hillybilly. Sent the article to my husband, he flew from Sydney to Melbourne yesterday
I was surprised there was no mist or fog up here this morning at my place that is.

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Back home in the Dandenongs tonight. Rather mild up here today - 11.2C and sunny after the fog cleared early.
Already down to 7C outside with RG of 95% so more fog tonight - then a big change tomorrow with windy northerly weather.

Hmmm. Certainly coincides with my trip with Jetstar. I am never flying with them again after so many delays alone with my flights.
Fog galore again here this morning and yesterday morning, and most likely the story for tomorrow morning. Freezing temps as well and a touch of frost this morning too.

Down in South Gippsland tonight at Sandy Point (yeah have been around a bit lately). Very thick fog down here in patches tonight - shallow but viz down to ~20m in places. Is going to be a cold one.
Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Clear mornings the last couple of days and therefore we got some light frosts. 1C minimums on each of the last two days. Almost spring like in Melbourne today with some 'fine weather' Cu (humilis) around as well as some Ac. Mild one tonight and clear.

Light rain here and plenty more rolling in from the N/NE..as soon as i got up at 6 this morning i didnt think it would be mainly sunny, first off with the incoming cloud from the west and the nice mid level deck of alto cumulus moving in from the North..

Re: Fog and sunshine in the SE - 16-20 June
Well, extremely interesting day today. Thick cloud lowering, earlier this morning we had some rather intense wind blowing the washing vertical on the line, plastic chairs blown over etc. Now all of a sudden we have had a very brief but quite heavy shower with quite large drops, clearly convective. IT is all hidden atm though under the thick cloud at lower levels.
Interesting signs for the next few days to see such a sudden burst of solid intensity rainfall when the BOM forecast would have you believe it will be just drizzly. The potential is there. That little shower before probably would have been 15-20mm/hr.
