wow, That system fizzled out really quick. Can see patches of blue sky to my north again. Got some very light rain here, but nothing to write home about.

LOL well these guys have a deadline to get the slab down nextdoor being a Simmons home.
Rain is moderate here atm, can see some blue sky in the north through the rain. Dont ask how, just its a blue tinge

Just moderate rainfall out here sadly, but all helps none the less. Looking for the chance of storms to continue for the next few hours before tending to showers and rain areas.
Another day tomorrow where storms are possible as the flow shifts SSW later.

Rain has picked up again in the last 10 minutes, pity I don't have a rain gauge here at work, would love to know the total here so far. Just as I typed it started pouring down, quite heavy now.

I'm at work here in Sandringham and all we got was a few drops that barely wet the ground.
Re: Victoria: Low pressure System and Rain event. August 9th-15th 2009
Still raining moderately in Sth Melbourne and has been for 45 min...about 5-8mm is my guess
Re: Victoria: Low pressure System and Rain event. August 9th-15th 2009
Good forecast with thunderstorms expected to continue tonight. Again don't be suprised if they are forecast tomorrow.
Highest fall in the state is outside of Seymour with Booroola picking up 20mm from thunderstorms and further rain moving in as the low edges SE.
Could see some totals clock up this evening in some regions of the state. Melbourne looks to be in a good position to make up for yesterday and some suburbs could go past 10mm overnight.

This low was never going to be great, with dry low levels and lack of any Major infeed of moisture.
Many have really missed out again sadly.
Nice showers and storms about and should go for few more hours yet, so some will pick up that 5-8mm but pretty hit and miss though.
Sky is looking great so many different types and layers of cloud, sky has that spring look to it almost thundery looks nice and great to see
Watch for more showers overnight, things here are damp again after 2mm overnight and another 3mm in showers today

Hey FS!! You could do alright the coming 12hrs with the ESE flow.
Raining moderately here but in drops the size of 50c pieces!! Really nice soaking rain out there which could go for a while in this stream.

What are the chances of this low hanging around for the the next 24hrs??? Some nice looking showers to my S atm and if the low stuck around for a little while longer and maybe a little wobble we may get a shower.

Totally not expecting that lot of cloud this afternoon, I was lucky enough to snap a couple of pics 5 minutes before it hit at Doncaster. Good rainfall out of it too - did see mammatus just before the rain started too...

a funny sort of day here today, light rain this morning, cloud broke up rather sunny then the convective activity kicked on around 2pm. Was awesome because I was on drive tests. Large Cu Cj and the distant anvils of Cbs around the place alas nothing here. seems like the eye of this little low is right over Ballarat! Felt warm too.

Quite a nice storm (at at least had 2 rumbles of thunder) moved over the top of my work at Broadmeadows this afternoon! I watched it come together towards the NE on radar and eventually go on to dump about 4mm over the city! One thing that impressed me was that it had quite a nice guster as it approachded and seemed to turn outflow dominant right over the top of me!
Here's a couple of pics anyway.. sorry about the quality.. only had my Nokia with me
Firstly as it was approaching from the NNE
Had quite a yellow/green tinge to it on its western edge which made me think hail was a possibility but we didn't score any at Broadmeadows..
This one below was as the outflow/guster region was passing right over the top of the radar! We had about 5 minutes of quite gusty "cold" winds!
It also had a few interesting little lowerings as it set its sights on the CBD..
Not a bad afternoon at all!
Cheers
Cameron
Edit : Awesome pics Leasy! That's exactly how it looked in the distance about 10 minutes before i starting taking pics! Very nice gust front!!

Thanks Heinzey!
I was rushing back to my work and made sure I got a parking spot facing north to capture that monster! It looked a lot darker in person though - just so glad to have the camera on hand!
Great pics you have there - it's good to see another angle on it, love the first pic, shows the guster really well.

Re: Victoria: Low pressure System and Rain event. August 9th-15th 2009
Quite rare to have a low sitting over Central Vic. I am making the most of it while it lasts and hopefully we get some more storms tonight!!! There is still little orange and yellow dots on the radar but nothing substantial at the moment. I think there will be a lot of rain around the west coast of Port Philip Bay as this low moves south.
What do you guys think about Sunday evenings prospects?

Re: Victoria: Low pressure System and Rain event. August 9th-15th 2009
Reasonably happy with the 5mm we got here today in Ferny Creek - no storm from what I could tell. Was a ripper storm through the city but over very quickly. Still - getting a (non coldie) storm in winter is just about unheard of can't complain.
Some OK falls around the state - though patchy - Melton South's 12mm and Booroola's 20mm are the best (I'ld reckon 12mm increases Melton's YTD rainfall by near 10% ).
Next 36 hours will be interesting. As the low moves into Bass Strait we should see a nice area of rain developing which may wrap around. This is a touch and go situation with a slight shift in the intensity and location of the low making a big difference. Both GFS and UK are pretty keen on a wrap around (GFS showing falls up to 50mm in the next 48 hours in south central areas). It looks to me like the start of this may be showing up in South Gippsland ATM.

Re: Victoria: Low pressure System and Rain event. August 9th-15th 2009
Finished with about 5.6mm here which was a nice save. Usually the rainbands skirt north of us and over the western suburbs when the flow is east-west. Sister in Monbulk scored 8.8mm so that is a good effort there.
Looking towards tomorrow and it really is cross everything!!! I think it is a matter of things falling our way (obviously). Could see falls of 10-20mm if it wraps the right way. I think the rainband will be rather convective too so falls will be a lot thicker than the previous days with better moisture profile.
Weekend looking OK too. Potential for a 22-23C day on Saturday and Sunday.
