That radar looks magnificent. Could be our biggest storm in years this one.

Looking less and less likely that i am going to make it home dry. Stopped raining for a bit here, but thinking its going to start dumping here in the next 10 minutes. Power lines in the area are moving around a little too much for comfort, so i am expecting a very long slow drive home once this band really hits. Interested to see if there is much rain behind what is currently showing on the radar

My mistake saying no huge storms, black currently on the radar in a few spots, amazing, I hope that too many people aren't hurt.

ok rain is officially torrential in Elwood. Going nuts here with hail mixed in with the rain. Gutters arn't coping at all with mega overflow happening, missing the tanks due to the large quantity.Rain rate have to up near 75mm p/hour plus.

I was thinking of putting my rain gauge on an angle to catch some of this rain.
But with two huge cracks of lightning make that three and now hailing. I think not.

You know what they say about being careful about what you wish for, you just might get it.

OMG, well left school at 1pm to got to Colac for an orthodontist appointment at 3.30pm (had to do other jobs too) and I was driving with mum in the passenger side ( I am a learner driver, lol) and the wind was so harsh on the car once we got to Colac, people were stopping and waiting for 5-10 mins before it died down for a bit. We then continued and there was a lull in the weather, but become very black to the west, and I knew that was the pre-frontal squall line that I saw before I left entering the SW. So as it crept closer I was eating lunch in the car, and bam. Huge winds, and very heavy rain. Then mum got back so we had to get to my appointment, and it was me driving. It was so hard to see, people were driving at 5 km/h or abouts, and as we turned to get onto Murray Street, the traffic lights were flashing amber. Just my luck, and even mum had never been through broken lights, so we got there, people had no idea what to do, they were all signalling to each other through the windscreens for people to go, and then finally the police arrived, directing me throught. HECTIC!!! After my appointment I had to visit the local radio station, so we did that, and then we decided to get tea at KFC (have to go out again tonight, so quick tea is good idea), but police were blocking the drive through. Just great, so we drove slowly past and I got one hell of a fright, the KFC sign which was on a pole probable 10m high come crashing down, a matter of 5 metres from me and mum. Police then ran to the sight with SES and controlled the area. We then got our KFC, haha. A very serious drive home with the winds as well, and several trees across the road and SES and police atteneded them. All with me driving. A fantastic, but fairly scary driving experience. The weather though, absolutley amazing!
At home now, and the rain has stopped, but persistent showers and have seen one CG are occuring here, so a wet and even windier night ahead. Storm Force wind warnings have been issued for overnight and tomorrow thanks to the next approaching front that will skim through the southern parts. Hope everyone gets the rain they want, we certainly have. How about you John? Tony? Anyone? Sorry about the spelling too, I am in a rush!

I've never seen rain hit the western facing windows so hard, some of these gusts are getting pretty strong. Bit worried about the 2 cranes across from my house as they are really coping it. No hail, thunder or lightning yet. Just heavy rain and strong gusts.

Just got the edge of that, just very strong winds mixed with heavy rain.

Lightning! And Thunder!! How sweet it is!! Rain has started to ease a bit, not sure if there is more to come but that was pretty awesome - glad I was home to witness this rather than in the car!!

Just got home. Encountered amazing CG on Blackburn Road near Doncaster Road. The 4yo daughter is in need of a change of underwear. Winds were shocking as was the driving rain and hail. No tree damage evident from Box Hill to Doncaster East but am expecting that to change. Numerous accidents reported as well as a tree down at Essendon station. Crazy stuff!!
Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
It is certainly wild out there. Am used to hyperbole from the media but this one really has packed a punch. Bit worried about those gusts in the Dandenongs. 120km/hr and rain = lots of trees down.
Reckon snow is a reasonable chance about the tops of the Dandenongs tonight depending on the vigour of the showers (post front).
