Can see the tops of some cells to the west between all the altocu and stratocu. Looks like there could be a rumble in it.
Fairly solid period of rain tonight.
Again I think we need to watch the band coming up underneath this next band. Could provide some further rainfall on interest.

Looks like some lightning coming up to Walpeup now. That place is so lucky, they always seem to get storms going through there. Clearing here again so that would be my last chance I would say. Looks like drier air coming across now and the next front looks as though it will struggle to get here. Next "event" please. I am sick of this one.

Looking good on the radar, almost began to think we were in the tropics earlier as it was geting quite warm and humid.
With any luck this lot will not divert around the ranges.....

A lot happening out there particularly in the middle layers. Cloud band to the west looking very dark and menacing.
Looking very thundery to the W/NW.

Radar looking interesting, bulk of it sticking south yet again but will see what we can get out of this.

Just arrived back from my spritual home of Epping, nothing happening there yet, just started raining here at home as the next band arrives from the west.

Looks very dark to the SW and W at the moment with next wave of showers with this cold front. Should be some storms embedded within this and hail about.
Not much wind at the moment but should re-establish a SW flow in a couple of hours.
Expecting 5-15mm with it and there are further bands of showers behind this band.

Sudden heavy downpour, now it's died down again. Rain is steady but by the looks of the radar it's going to pass my house very soon.
Rain drops sizes are very big aswell.

Ah, this is weak. Fizzled right out, just light to moderate rain.
Expectations too high yet again. The radar and thunderstorm forecast fool us into thinking something good is coming.

Black as the proverbial here. Just starting to drizzle, and I suspect it will do so for the next 30 or so minutes.
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Just heard thunder here. I am sure it was!!
Very heavy rain to my SW. Looks like it will mostly go to my south

Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Got some great Cbs evident to our west ATM over Bass Strait. Just started to rain again.
That squall coming across Melbourne looks great, though is rather too fast to drop big falls.
Up to 9mm at hope according to the wife Should still get the predicted 20-40mm for us.
PS Karl there is a radar hole over Ferny Creek which probably includes you a bit, so I would read too much into the detail.
(BTW massive beach erosion down here - the beach has lost about 1m of sand this week - I'ld guess mostly with the ~0.8m storm surge we had on Monday).

Have to admit that was pretty weak 1mm at best for us giving a total of 14mm. But it does look like it is thickening up as it heads east though.

Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
We have thunder down here now
BTW the snow is taking a hammering - Perisher up to 50mm and still falling. Must be some serious runoff happening.

CBs = Thunderstorms
DJ, plenty of thick rain and fat rain here. Winds hit 35kts with the change and second roll cloud for the day.
Up to 10mm for the day here and raining though it will ease.
Another band of rain and possibly thunderstorms coming in from the west.
Cold pool should come into frame off the SW in the next 2hours.

Another 4mm in that system just before 6pm. Takes me up to 9mm since midnight. Happy Joy.
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
DJ, that radar hole would explain why rainfall is so heavy here despite there being minimal on radar this evening!!
Looking good for the catchments with a good day of rainfall. Should recieve 30-40mm out of the sequence.
