Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Up to 34mm so very handy and 70mm for the "week". This will now be the wettest month up here since Dec 2007 with a 161mm so far.
The next trough lies back through Bass Strait and is through us mid afternoon. Should see another 20mm up here before tomorrow morning with showers picking up through today.
Snow for us is touch and go. Probably just a little to warm here, but should be cold enough at the top of Mt Dandenong late today/tonight (great to hear you have some Jane! - reckon you could do pretty well ahead of the front).

Only 26mm here from yesterday morning, you know just another inch, on top of the inch the other day and the inch last week and.....
Brilliant stuff. Heard it get heavy again around 1:30 - 2:00am.
25mm - 45mm right across the Yarra Ranges which is just a start. They should crack 150mm by Tuesday.

Some great snow falls overnight in the alps - 20cm at Buller and I suspect similar at Lake Mt and Baw Baw. Looks like winter begins on GF days this year (and ends on Tuesday).
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Morning all, just 6mm here for this system so far. Seems like the Caroline Springs area missed quite a bit of that rain late yesterday. Going to be a cold one today, freezing out there. Even my Jack Russell agrees. She's refusing to come out of her kennel.

Pity the season offically ends this Sunday. Come Tuesday I reckon Buller etc. may have just about their best natural cover all year, and right down to the bottom of all their runs as well.
But hey they opened on the 1st? weekend of May this year, that went well. Maybe they could repeat the exercice and open 1st weekend in October? Good marketing.
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Another 11mm overnight - thought it was all gone when I looked on the radar last night! That's 28mm for the last 24 hours - brilliant!
Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Yes 34mm here this morning and hopefully another 10mm today, could end with 50mm for the system whuch would be awesome. Been a sensational spring and i can assure you the ground is absolutely saturated through the Yarra Valley...expect the catchments to go up significantly by the end of next week. Add on the 10% they have taken off and we will be almost half by the end of the Spring with any luck..especially if we get a good dumping of snow this weekend.

7.7 mm in the gauge in Kerang this morning - yes I know the numbers pale into insignificance compared to what you guys down south are getting but we have now had our best monthly total for the year and surpassed last year's YTD total as well. The first proper spring we've had since 05 when we had no autumn rain and it was all too late.

Re: Victoria: Significant Cold Outbreak - September 25th-29th 2009
Wow Karl, you must be literally flooded.... where is the BoM flood warning for your backyard.
11.2mm to 9am this morning, it was probably around 11.30pm last night that we had very heavy showers again. Some moderate showers here now, moving on through in the SW airstream.
Expect scattered showers to extend from the south today, increasing further with the trough moving through. Very windy as well, with gusts over 100 km/h possible. Isolated thunderstorms I'd say are most possible with and west of the trough.

12mm all up since yesterday here which takes me to close to 65mm for the month. Best September here locally since 2000 or could even be 1996 have to check that one out.

The satellite loop ATM is a ripper. A large areas of deep cold convection moving up through western Vic. It looks to be about 2 hours from Melbourne so could be a wet start to the GF.
Obs through the SW are encouraging - 7mm at Cape Otway in last two hours and temperature dropping to 6C in the showers. Should be some nice low level snow when it hits the ranges.

Another 5.5mm since I last emptied the gauge yesterday evening which takes me to 27.3mm for the system. A few brief showers this morning, just had another come through but more sun than cloud generally. Looking forward to the mayhem this afternoon.

at the moment it is mostly sunny, cool and breezy. Last night's rain a distant memory. As I don't record rain here, can't tell you how much fell but i would say it would be anywhere between 5-10mm, which is good for this area.

Radar starting to thicken up nicely over the last hour! Should be some very nice falls all around the state once again in the near future! I'm going for a run up to Donna Buang this afternoon (if i can get up there!) so i'm thinking there should be a nice covering of snow up there by late this arvo! I'll post some pics when i get back home.

Loving the area of cloud well south of TAS moving up as the low develops. Looking like another 20mm at least.
Should see showers become heavy ahead of the rain next hour.

Haven't been up there Jane but there haven't been any showers vigorous enough (with the temp here at 520m asl hovering between 6C and 7C) for any snow, other than flurries, I would think.

Now up to 34mm for today alone, 60+mm in 2 days is not bad going for us and plenty more to come. But of a sunny break here at the moment so we are off to Trentham to get some decent weather. Will have to see what happens overnight to determine if a trip up the mountain is needed.
