Tasmania: Severe Weather and Flood Warnings - August 11th to 13th
With much of Tasmania already socked with previous rain events, this low pressure system affecting Victoria is going to impact Tasmania, in particular the eastern coast of Tasmania.
A severe weather warning was issued this afternoon for Damaging Winds and Flash Flooding in NE Tasmania with this system.
Flood warnings have been issued for both the South Esk River (Minor) and the Macquarie River (Moderate).
Flinders Island is starting to record some handy falls, and can be seen being impacted by a nice blob on the Satpic.
Although we don't have any Tassie friends on here, it would be worth keeping an eye on.

Thanks Sniper, my sister moved to Tassie 4 months ago. She is near Huonville and they've had nothing but rain for months. They are building a house and are living in a tin shed on the property so you can imagine how miserable it's been for them surrounded by all this mud, slush and rain. She can't wait for next month when we head off on a cruise on the Mediterranean, it will be like heaven after what they have been through.

RG, I like the sound of a Mediterranean cruise
Rainfall will start to increase sharply along eastern Tasmania. Flinders Island has fared the very, being the most NE, with 30mm. A surprising figure is Mt Wellington with 51mm, whilst all surrounding areas have struggled to get a couple of mm. I presume this has something to due with the altitude
South Esk river is currently in minor flood however BOM are expecting this to increase to moderate with the arrival of the heavy rain. The Macquarie is currently in moderate flood around Ross, but only in minor flood around the Upper and middle reaches of the basin.
An interesting 24hrs ahead!!

Looks to me like a thick drizzle event. In the Dandenongs these often set up rainfall gradients of 2-5mm per 100m so ~50mm while on the upper end is credible. Mt Wellington occasionally get phenomenal rainfall totals - the east Australian current brings some very warm water down the east coast of Tasmania at times and in easterlies that area can behave a bit like the southcoast of NSW. I reckon it would be a great area to live in for weather (Fern Tree is a reallly pretty spot - though darn cold in winter).

Thanks for the explanation. With the temps being between 0.5 and 1.5 for the whole day, would the drizzle be mixed with a bit of sleet/snow?

Major flooding currently in the South Esk River. Falls were probably not as high as expected, however with recent good falls, catchments were saturated and now are in flood.

Flooding still a major concern in the North-East. The township of Perth is expected to experience their biggest flood in 50 years.
Some big weekly rainfall totals just through:
St Marys 242mm
Gray 183mm
Rosemount Flat 174mm
Lake Leake 171mm
