Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
We got around 15mm from the system. 41 mm in the last week which is great.
Real winter weather at Mt Macedon, 8C max yesterday, -!C this morning to 5.1C this afternoon, snow flurries throughout last night, ice on everything this morning, sleety showers and sunny breaks today.High, fast-moving clouds. Perfect weather for me! Sad to see that the system did not pan out for Melbourne, very dissapointing but what can you expect?
Havent checked but did the Melbourne catchments get much?

20-40mm Snow Looks like some good runoff throughout. The best areas are the Upper Yarra region which had about 120mm this week but you won't hear those figures being official

Good report Greg.
15mm here for the event, so not bad with 1mm from yesterday.

0.3mm overnight for us. Again just too dry in the low levels to deliver (same old story). Should be a burst of showers today moving across from the west (into Melbourne around lunchtime). LAPS has locally 5-10mm in it (particularly east central areas looks like they may do OK). Would be nice to kick of Spring with a fall.... today's rain now counts for September.
More good falls overnight about the higher ranges including 10mm at Mt William and 23mm at Mt Buller - westerlies banking up on the ranges day after day are the best thing for sustained runoff.

About 13mm for the event here and ~42mm for the week. Nothing to sneeze at.

That's good as. Seems like all the major reservoirs got around 10millimetres from Saturday till yesterday 2pm.

Ended up with 12mm at Taylor Bay (Lake Eildon).
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
We ended up with around 10mm at Mansfield for the weekend. Ground is really wet and even with those light/moderate falls, run off is occurring into Lake Eildon. Also the river under the Bonnie Doon bridge is now 3-4 metres wide and following quite vigorously.

Blackie,
If possible, next time you go over the Bridge, could you take a photo.
Certainly nice to see the rain up there on Saturday evening
Cheers mate!

Quite heavy showers here the last hour and more to come by the looks of things. 1.4mm here and just coming down again.
Looking at the radar there is a bit more to come. 3-5mm possible over the course of this afternoon.
Dribs and drabs do add up over time...

They are getting chunky Karl. Nice little clump heading your way. Any chance a rumble today?
Also pleasing that the activity (albeit light) is penetrating inland.

Wind gusts to around 40 knots here with whiteout conditions. Pity it didn't last longer but around 3mm here in about 5 minutes. 4.4mm for the day. Sun coming back out but a little convection to the west and showers further west and southwest.
Chance of a thunderstorm yes Wes, not a lot in it but the odd CC and rumble about with small hail.

Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
OK from across the Strait but still relevant...
Looks like Maatsuyker Island has broken its record August wind speed by 15 km/hr this morning with a gust of 174km/hr at 10:30am (the old record dates back 5 days). This also equals the all months record. The pressure gradient in the region is running at 9hPa over 90km
From being in South Gippsland on the weekend it was apparent that the wind/wave storms during the past week had done the most damage to the beaches that I've seen in 10+ years of visits with severe erosion into sand dunes (this included a 0.8m storm surge last Tuesday at Crib Point).
Not much to report from the CBD - the rain repellent continues to work with black north, south, east and west but not overhead.

Will do Sniper. Took me by surprise seeing it flowing so hard. Just had a burst of heavy showers in Sth Melbourne - sub whiteout for a few minutes but that intensity was isolated
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Up to 7mm here and still raining steadily!!!!!

nice total there Karl. Very heavy rain here again now. City could get 10mm if this keeps up.
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Just shy of 5mm here I was driving through it the back way from Pakenham to Lysterfield, puddles everywhere and very heavy at times, the wipes had trouble keeping up! Looks like more is on it's way.

Had a reasonable heavy period of shower activity. Not quite whiteout but a reasonable rate.
A bit of a surprise this! Almost beats our effort on Saturday which was much hyped

Very heavy shower or even a storm in the Lilydale region presently. Still raining here. A share under 9mm.
See if we can sneak 10mm.

I think there's a cb east of Melbourne airport and sort of south of Yan Yean. Looks small though, so i'm not sure.
