Clyve's central ranges outlook for the coming week

14th - 20th September 2009

OVERVIEW: A high pressure area moves into Victoria today (Monday) with settled weather, fine Tuesday after a frosty morning. A trough and cold front approaches Wednesday with increasing cloud and wind then showers/rain and a risk of a storm later Wednesday and overnight into Thursday. A high pressure ridge moves across Victoria later Thursday and into Friday before another trough and cold front for Saturday and Sunday with more showers.

RAIN POTENTIAL: Rainfall between 10 and 20mm a possibility from Wednesday to later Thursday, another 5 to 10mm for next weekend.

FROST POTENTIAL: Severe frosts a risk Tuesday morning. Frost also a risk Friday/Saturday mornings.

SNOW POTENTIAL: Sleet a risk with small hail Thursday.

Do you think that the chance of thunderstorms has subsided slightly for these days?

Well there is the risk of thunder but I think the general flow will be too mobile, far too much cloud and the timing of the frontal systems seem to favour rainfall more so than thunderstorms. I think we will have to evaluate this a few days from now...

Monday and Tuesday pose a moderate to high risk of local thunderstorms.
