Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
BTW one question for our farmer types. Is this rain causing problems for crops? Getting 25-50mm of rain and humid conditions on mature wheat etc can't be good (I know it can cause sprouting etc). Is currently pouring rain out in parts of the Wimmera etc.
Also.... EC/GFS/ has a follow up rain event as the current upper trough goes north and then does an anticlockwise loop around Australia coming back to Victoria on Thursday. EC has a follow-up 80mm for us (anyone wana start the new thread?).

Thats great for Hawthorn, good to have a report from the inner east. Do you have a year to date total?
What an amazing event for Melbourne and the surrounding areas. Just in the nick of time too, it was pretty dry heading out to Mt Macedon yesterday, still green from Gap Hill on though which is lucky.
Think of all those poor Melbourne trees that are enjoying their first decent drink for ages

Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
wow what rainfall figures!
The CS weather site stopped recording rainfall at 2.05am and by then we had had 26.4mm. I know we have had more since then! Looking at suburbs around me, the Airport has had 55.6mm, 50.2mm at Essendon, Laverton at 34.8mm, so I will guess somewhere in the 40mm range would be about what we got. I am going to go for a drive to see how Kororoit Creek has fared in all this....it has the ability to getquite overwhelmed at times when rainfall like this occurs, but then at other times it doesn't get affected at all. But with very high rainfall amounts near Gisborne, I wonder if by this afternoon, the creek will rise dramatically!

26mm here so very happy, got my 20mm I wanted. Currently heavy drizzle with heavy rain embbeded. Don't know if I will get much here but damn, it's good to here rain again.

Just 32mm so far Jane, but good enough for me as the tanks are full again, any more is just a waste . Going to take a trip over your way this arvo, want to see how much water is on my block in Blue Mount, have an idea for a water feature/moat at the moment

Yes ILS..the band west of Melbourne is starting to really drop and edging Eastward at the same time...suspect a few hours of more heavy rain and then into the Southerly..

Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
My Rain gauge only goes to 45mm and it's well past that. Be guessing at 55mm overnight. Great result and the towels and buckets held out for me.
Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions everyone. The leak is only a recent thing, and this is the 1st event that it has been a problem, so now I know what is going on I can get the estate agent to actually do something, and I will attach that photo to the email, as has been suggested it is guaranteed to get a quick result.
Enjoy the day people, nothing better than a nice wet Sunday.

Yes I just noticed that, I wonder if it could organise further into a line of storms, I will not write anything off in this event
It's looking good, but depends how far north it extends for us to get it here. Lilydale has missed everything so far.

Well ILS this is where the maximum instability should be in theory, close to the upper level low. Looking like another pounding shortly for the city..

Some nice pressure drops in the last hour as the trough moves in from the west with a nice band associated with it, should see some more nice falls.
Great to see the rain, the lemon tree in the backyard I also hacked to death about a week before the heatwave has started to sprout new growth

Just went for a quick drive to the usual spots around Blackbutrn & Box Hill. Conditions not too bad, just a good prolonged soaking, not much debris on the roads. Sparks Reserve is filling as fast as possible. I've see that place full with the water half way over the walkway (pic 5).

You're not wrong about pressure drops Nick!!

Great shots sniper, that band is widening and you can see the beginning of rotation on radar now too. It's not lightning active though.

Not my finest mate, but you get the idea hey
What's going on with you Avatar? Seems to be distorting?
That band is meaty and if the radar is underestimating, could well be 30mm falls in the hour. Will be keen to see Ballarat' obs in the next 30 mins!!
Edit: Fiesty little storm barged thru Yarrawonga, direct hit. This line in front of the band may get lightning active, it is very unstable out there with these fast dropping pressures.

Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
Nice guys..glad to report we have had about 34mm of rain here. Puddles everywhere!!! Clearing at the moment but looks like we may get some more with the second band coming through. Wedding yesterday in Melton and was very humid at the ceremony at 3.30pm and bucketed down with rain at about 5.30pm when I left home, never stopped and was a glorious sounds to listen to once at home with the French Doors open in the bedroom (no wind for once!! )
Sounds like people got some very good totals of rain, I am hoping that the catchments copped some good heavy falls overnight and today

Am I reading this right? 56mm in Melbourne Airport. I have not seen that figure at Melbourne Airport in ages.

Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
Just took the 9am obs. 50.4mm in the gauge so very happy. Event up to 54mm - 4mm than I was hoping so from here on it's all a bonus.
Looks like round 3 is about to start. Should be worth another 20mm (at least) up here and wouldn't be surprised to see another 50mm.
BTW here's the (current) to 9am top scorers. No 100mm falls officially but reckon it's pretty certain someone scored the ton between the gauges.

Can't see why not.
Was it Rob Gell quoted last night saying 10 - 15mm for the city? Gee good call that. Any idiot with a basic understanding of the models and sat pcis etc could see we would get more than that.
Re: Victoria: Broad area of low pressure - November 19th-25th 2009.
GFS nailed this event, placed the heaviest falls to the NW of Melbourne, but underestimated the falls in most areas, except the Wimmera.
