There are no plans to close the bridge so let's not go there just yet. Keep listening out for reports on 3AW and the ABC.
Change due at 5 in Melbourne.

Not sure if the West Gate will be closed. If if does close it will be an immediate decision, rather than say a broadcast stating that the bridge will close at x o'clock for x amount of time. Anytime from 4pm will be hairy on the Geelong road.
If you are concerned about the family Floyd and they are not required at their destination at a particular time, I would advise them to seek shelter and not drive.

I don't think this is a change as such, maybe better described as an event. The low pressure system is very much like a tropical storm, without the same level of rain.

Reminds me of Black Saturday type wind, ferocious, biting wind outside, with gust after gust

Anyone online from around Geelong way? Looks torrential on the radar right now.
Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
Thanks Sniper, yeah that's what I thought was just seeing if anyone else knew anything or the like. Family is travelling as they are required somewhere but have left early. They are worried about the West Gate the most, but if they can get across early things shouldn't be too bad from there.
Finally felt the cold last night, was freezing and the wind chill was intense. Was great to see the radar so active last night but too bad about that big hole over Melbourne, managed to scrape in 10mm but would have probably been 15mm if it wasn't for that hole. Decent enough and some more tonight.

Winds back along the coast behind the change are still 80-90kmh with the odd gust of 100kmh.
Highest gusts are in the Grampians with 120-130kmh around the Mt William region.

Rain is intensifying as it heads towards the bay and the city - looks great on the radar.

Getting very excited about this. It seems to be getting heavier and expending quite quickly.

OMG that was out of control hail, lightning thunder, very heavy rain and 100km/hr+ wind anyone outside be super careful stuff flying through the air it is actually dangerous being in the car or outdoors when this sucker comes through! But i love it! Rain is still heavy now and winds would be 80km/hr+ still. Came through here 20min ago.Scott Lawrance wrote:Anyone online from around Geelong way? Thats what we like to hear FS.
Keep us posted in Geelong. I think this is going to be full on for a while. Any reports on road closures and so forth would be useful too.
Winds to about 85kmh here at times...

I'm due to leave work in the next 10 minutes and going by the radar I'm going to be driving right in the middle of it! This is going to be a very interesting trip home.

Winds getting wild now as this low scuddy cloud creeps across the sky.
Not so bad wind wise in Geelong but nearly 4mm in quick time with further heavy rain moving in. Great for the region!!!
Watch for the wind change behind this prefrontal storm band.

Sounds awesome firestorm. Radar looks great, but all the good stuff is sticking south. Let's hope it keeps building.
