That's good to hear DJ. I would expect that to continue. Very sad and frustrating just 40km north of me. 4.6mm here out of it.

Probably going to get shot down in flames here for saying this... But it is Weather people! It is as improbbable to predict (Not impossible, improbbable) as he the winning lottery numbers.
Wait to the system is over. We'll be able to tell by 10pm. People got a bit carried away by this system - it was never going to be massive - but rather a widespread good rain producer. The west has done very well and so has much of south central. Heavy rain is now spreading into the NE.
BTW what for development along the wind change which is just moving towards Laverton.
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Thunderstorm forecast saying at least two frontal/trough passages this afternoon and good instability resulting in possibly severe thunderstorm over most of the state but particularly Southern and mountain districts..got view of a nice bit of clearing behind this band...expect it to be a very good afternoon storm wise.

Clearing up here after 1.5mm.

Yes, there is a clearing behind this and it is looking quite unstable on models.
Already some nice convective showers around of course and we have had some solid rain late this morning and plenty of quite heavy bursts. Haven't checked the gauge but I'd say a few more mm.
EDIT: Another 2.5mm this morning. 9.2mm now all up. More importantly 100.2mm for the month now! Becoming increasingly rare to crack the magical 100 mark for a month these days.

Disappointing with that pre-frontal rain and now that nice rain band slipping south. Seems to be the trend these days. Glad I didn't carried away with going for 25mm here but instead hoping for 15mm but maybe just 10mm?? I think people have a right to whinge with the last 10 years or so and quite a promising system, but in saying that, I don't like people whinging until the system is completely over and has ran its course.
Disappointing so far for most, but the Wimmera, Western and some Central areas have picked up some okay falls, particularly the Wimmera, so let's wait for this one to be over before we can assess/judge/whinge etc.

Can't people just learn to live with other people's personalities and accept that there will be some posts from some people that may irritate some other posters? That's normal for any sort of community or groups of people. I don't really think it matters that much at the end of the day if people are whingeing or letting out their frustrations. You can't customise the responses and opinions of everyone on the forum in a large community to suit yourselves. I just don't want to see the petty hostilities and grumpiness that runs rife on the WZ forum carried over here. This forum has been great so far, low key and everyone pleasant with each other.
Drying up very quickly now with the convergence line dissipating and breaking up. Looking now towards the instability late this afternoon and hoping for some sun and heating to kick something off. Unfortunately looking very cloudy here and not really wanting to break up.

Had 8mm down here in the last hour. Reckon we've had about 20mm all up going by the amount of water lying around. City has just doubled it's event total with the narrow band on the first wind change.
Looks from the obs that a second wind change is just west of Mt Gambier.

Can't see that being a problem on here. Everyone is fine, well I think so anyway.
Had a gusty shower before but that's pretty much it.
Btw, from the winds on Monday, they knocked the antenna down and knocked it to face the opposite way. Pretty strong considering antennas are bolted down like crazy and that's a first for me. Mr. Antenna is due today.

Warm 21 Deg. here with Northerly gusting to 30 knots. The rain band just West of here will likely do it's parting act but hope to get something off the edges. Interesting period though.

Ricki sorry to offend just venting a little that's all. Emotion is caught up in this as I have a crop dying before me and the last bit really only gave me a few days to get another lot. If it fails again it will most likey spell the end for the farm. You may not have the house riding in weather but I do mate. The house and more

OK lets just move on, everyone is a little frustrated, lets all have a cup of tea and breather and enjoy the weather
DJ was right in an earlier post - seems that some - including myself - talked it up and that is the worst thing you can do when your not in control of the result, but there is a fair bit more weather to get through.
Now...WEATHER!!
Just had that line come through, nice feature on the change, a it dumped down over this part, had ~3mm with the windchange and now 7mm for the day and drizzly rain continuing but should clear back to fine soon.
Looking nice off the SW coast and the cold air field is also showing signs of frontal potential.
Now we await convection.
Great news DJ down there

Well I think this system could be a blessing in disguise with the risk of thunderstorms increasing due to the decrease in cloud cover. Fingers crossed we can add 10 next to that 0.1mm Jase

Looks like the change is about to hit Adelaide. May still be in for a chance with some showers looking like developing infront of the change. Would be happy to get 5mm out of it but reckon that would be pushing it. We will have to see if the showers can make it this far. Last night they just died off

any tips on what might happen at the MCG this arvo? The Hawks would probably benefit fom a wet park so lets hope the heavens open over the mcg in the next few hours. Have rceived 4mm so far in Pt Cook. Ground is drying very quickly though. Havent had a good storm for ages out this way.

Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
According to the forecast @ weatherzone there is a 90% chance I will receive 1mm today. Guess they were wrong. Now up to 5mm
Re: Victoria: Rain and Thunderstorm event - August 28th to 31st 2009
Well no comment there Damian
SW winds are pushing into the SW of the state with a building area of rain.
Now a nice storm in Adelaide presently with 10mm in as many minutes. Perhaps a sign of things to come!!?
~8mm here so far today.

Well very gloomy drizzly weather atm, moisture levels are high and the cloud atm is thick and showing no signs of clearing.
Not sure exactly what will happen for the rest of the day but I assume when these frontal passages come through they will be accompanied by lines of showers.

Had another 5mm's from that rain band this morning now up to over 7mm's for the event. Good chance of some heavy showers later and maybe a storm, on 69mm's for the month now, only 3mm's to go.

Going to need some reports from anyone over the ranges to the west and southwest of Melbourne. I can see some darker mid level cloud now as the lower cloud clears east.
Light winds.
