Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
This might sound stupid but that line up near Echuca seems to be rotating around the low and I am thinking it has the potential to go horizontal and come down towards Melbourne as a line from the north. Probably a long shot, but if you look at the 512km there seems to be a rotating trend.
Edit: Probably not quite enough time for that line to turn, but other ones further west maybe.

Malleefarmer wrote:By the looks of the radar we are smack in the middle of the low now so any rain will be coming from the WSW now. Funny, once the low started to move it really picked up speed. Should be in the tasman by morning
I'd say the Low is almost over Swan Hill now... looking at the wrap around. Hopefully it stalls a litte... going to be impossible to chase tonight, wont kow which way the storms are blooming moving!! haha

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Well, I am off to bed now. Still raining here!
The dynamics for the system are for nocturnal activity, but IMO it should have started earlier. Anyhow, the cell I was keeping an eye on north of Bendigo looks alright. Looks like I may be proved wrong ILS, activity does seem to be developing a little now, but I am still not totally 100% convinced of activity spreading too far south.
When I wake up I want to see posts of all these storms that developed!!!!!

Hey guys, great story's and photo's! That shot with the airliner passing over is great Greg
I wen't to Swan St bridge in Melb and got there a bit late, would of rather been at St Kilda pier but was held up going there. I grabbed a few pics as the line was passing over the city and then ran back to the car as it poored Went down to St Kilda pier after that and could see the SE getting smashed, here' a HDR pic (a bit over done) on Swan St for now until I sort out the others.

Just got home after a long day/night at work to find another 24 mm in the gauge since this morning's 23.2! Over 87 mm for November in Kerang now which is the best since 2004's 94.5. With the rest of this productive system to come the biggest monthly fall since 1997 is possible.

BOM have removed flash flood warning for most of vic, except for the nth-east. Could be all over for tonight for most, although since the BOM have removed it all hell will break lose.

Some stunning images in here. Congrats to all on your efforts..
Well a little anti climatic tonight but no complaints here after the intensive local rainfall here.
I think this will bode well for heating ahead of the next trough. DPs will be very high and between triggers we will see showers and storms develop over much of the state increasing later.
Up to 40mm likely with major thunderstorms.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
WOW, awesome photos. Looks like this is the place where all the cool people hang out!!!
I had to go to Ararat of all places this afternoon......Didnt realise it was so bloody far!!!
Anyhow, as soon as i left the hume freeway and started heading west at Violet town, i could see convection, and a massive anvil. The anvil was barely visible due to all the mid level junk.
Anyhow, before long it got jet black and the wind sprung up like mad.
Here is the gustfront just before it hit me, west of violet town, in the area of the seven creeks bridge, and the shepparton turnoff.
Where i was, the rain was so heavy that i had to pull over at one stage. There were a few cars pulled over, and those that were't were only doing about 20-30kph.
When i came back through the area at around 10.30pm tonight, i could see a massive damage path spreading for a couple of KM. There was trees totally obliterated and debris lying everywhere. I could see where threes had been cut/dragged off the road all over the place, at least a dozen. There was still sawdust all over the road!!! So if anybody is travelling on the road from violet town to murchison, when you see the clearly defined damage path, it was from the right hand side of the storm in the above photo.
The damage path was no more than 2 or 3 KM from where i was stopped. Im glad i wasnt stopped there, where i was was almost a complete whiteout.
Rikkis account of the storm he whitnessed in Bendigo sounds very similiar to the one i encountered. It was raining limbs at one point, and the table drains were all over flowing. I havnt whitnessed anything like that for a long long time!!!

It certainly is!!
The storm that came through here yesterday afternoon had winds of 100kmh through Melbourne and to be quite honest I was expecting more here with the scud nearly touching the ground a few km to the N as it was flying through.
A few CCs to the SW with decaying cells. Looking primed for much better photo opportunities tomorrow!!!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Well we were lucky up here in the hills that there wasn't much wind at all so no destruction except some power surges.
Welcome to the newcomers here and some really awesome photos put up tonight

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
So as expected all activity was mostly restricted to the northern parts. I thought I had the wrong call in saying that but I was right looking back at at the radar.
Today is looking like another cracker! High moisture levels, LI values down to -5 across the west and another strong trough to come through into the west this afternoon, central parts overnight. There is also clear skies here atm which would only help with development. I would say activity should start kicking off after midday mostly and there is more likely to be thunderstorms over the western districts, however are possible over central and eastern parts today as well. Severe thunderstorms likely again across the west with large hail, damaging winds and flash flooding.
Going to be an interesting day!

We I got a nice view of the approaching storms in Abbotsford yesterday, The system seemed to split either side of me with the eastern side looking more menacing (which it turned out to be!). I only scored 7mm at home plus 4mm in the morning, still thats 98mm for the month I also got my first daytime lighting shot thanks to the lighting pulsing so nicely
Here are the shots.

Morning all, tipped 16mm out of the gauge this morning, most of it from yesterday's storm. Brings my event total to 18mm. Very happy. Later today/tommorow should be interesting as well.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Far our Robbie, sounds like a severe microburst to me. Had a similar experience back over in SA near Loxton, literally 2-5 kms for tree carnage. Which is why it's a good idea to be on the outside of storm observing rather than core punching. Same could be said when i was only a couple kms away from the Karoonda tornado a few years back, i wouldn't have know what hit me in the dark if i had gone a few km's up the road. I guess you can call it luck, but i favor common sense.
Great photos everyone, really fantastic. Today will be primed. I think storms are going to be more structurally spectacular. Cooler air pushing into the humid mass that we have here atm amounts to striated shelf clouds at the front of any storm that develops, like the Caroline Springs storm that came through in march this year:
Strong shear profiles will make any storm dynamic, strong jet aloft, cool uppers, plenty of moisture, and a deck of cards, take ya pick;) I'm actaully more excited about today than yesterday!

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Great pic guys.
Barely 7mm here a massive dissapointment from yesterdays storm considering what others got. Knew after 5pm yesterday we would get nothing last night even though the set up looked good to some just looked and didnt feel good to me the Upper low was weakening and stayed to far North (tracking East) for anything decent down here.
Today is tricky don't see to many storms this afternoon down here and dont expect a substantial rainband overnight but we shall see
