The radar is still not working...Melbourne Airport Backup

some very light patchy rain here atm. only just enough to wet the ground. Cant believe the lawn has totally been resurrected after our last couple of weekends.

Light rain for us now too, just enough to make gardening difficult

well my cricket game was washed out. some heavy showers caused that. Still mild. Big Cu around.

All looks pretty tame from where I am sitting..
Cloud deck appears to be reasonably high and the clouds within view towards my north seem to be quite weak.
Just had a look west towards the bay and there appears to be some embedded stuff that looks a little more organised.

Not convinced about any proper storms yet the air still has a humid moist feel to it though which is encouraging.
Should get a rainband as the low edges closer?

I actually like the look of the satellite loop shows cells continually spawning.

Had a torrential shower about 10 mins ago. Radar under-estimated that one! Was driving and vis was reduced to metres!!!

Latest models looking good, especially for western and west central parts. Today's activity should see around 10-15mm falls about the central ranges, more likely though in west central areas and upwards of 25mm in parts of the west. Scattered 5-10mm elsewhere.

Tomorrow looks like SE flow around the low should deliver a very showery day to west central areas including western suburbs of Melbourne, also SE suburbs of Melbourne and particularly Gippsland. Just a few showers north of the divide and clearing in the west. MLAPS has around 30mm here for the rest of the weekend but GFS closer to 15mm. Both the BOM models and GFS show the SE flow increasing rainfall for west central.

Rain atm is only light but there are some embedded cells starting to show up. Need the flow to be more N/NW than W/NW for here.

Very active line of storms through the Mallee and Wimmera with lightning rates as high as yesterday storm. May come down into N Central areas later.

Showers increasing and slowly spreading east. This will result in good totals. I expect rain periods tonight and tomorrow morning with the risk of thunderstorms.

Highest fall to 3pm is 11mm down at Portland. 4-5mm in the last hour in the Ballarat region.

Just got back from a walk and those mid to high base clouds are getting very black, and popping up out of nowhere quite quickly. Could be a great arvo rain wise, it also feels a lot more humid out there than the stats are showing too. Maybe it was just the big hill

The radar is down again!!! It was working fine about an hour ago and nows it back to tulla. Urgh!! I hate that radar.

a totally unexpected very heavy shower just hit here. Only lasted 2 mins, but did'nt seem like it was comingon the radar.

Melbourne AP Radar underestimates and does not read well around the ranges.

Look out for thunderstorms in amongst it all.

quite strong winds plus steady heavy rain now. AP radar has underestimated this.

AP radar is in windfinding so no idea what is going on.

Though on the eye it scream rain and thunder. Very turbulent bases about too in the mid layers.

I think the radar in general has underestimated this low's punch, but glad to see that Melbourne's water supply has gotten what it got, as it will help in the summer months.

Nice lengthy shower before, decent rain rates, 2.2mm. No idea what is coming but satellite is looking pretty promising.

Doppler back on line, (although how long for is anyone's guess:roll: ).

Showing a nice band of rain to the west with a thundery look about it. Need to wait until we get a loop of images before we can tell exactly which direction it is heading and whether it is building or about to break up.

I assume it is bucketing down in the SW corner, looks pretty good.

Very grey here approaching from the west, hoping I can get hit by the line around Kyneton to Blackwood but it looks to be weakening and slipping a bit south still. Overnight looking like more showers and a possible storm.

Your right Andrew that area has been copping a caning all day..the rain areas to the western border region are pushing a fair way north.

Of course because its an upper cold pool there will be some great totals, and expect thundery showers to continue through central areas all night into the morning..We are not in the best spot as we will largely miss out on the northern aspect of the wrap around, but may get the southern wrap around once we go southerly tomorrow.

Hmmm looks like it is mostly going to slip south of us..but heard some rumbles just then too
