Let me just say, the squall line we just had was insane. Winds definetley reached near 80-100 km/h. Most lightning gone now, just distant flashes but still raining!
Tomorrow looking fairly good too!

the system seems to have hit the turbo button and is moving a lot quicker now. The new cells that are developing seem to be very intense and growing rapidly. Ballarat not out of the woods yet!

7.7mm here so far. It's sort of crept up a bit, we've only had brief heavy rain but a fair period of solid moderate intensity rainfall.

Looks to have intensified after it went over us!! Geelong looks to be getting hammered now
only 1.7 mm here out of that .. stars are out.. pretty calm, constant flashes to my west though.. still looks to be sliding south though.

Yep. It is on the back edge and this is the nature with these systems.
Melbourne suburbs are not out of the woods yet. That Macedon intensification could herald some reasonable results this way.
As predicted the scattered convection is beginning and they will contain strong and damaging winds.
Well done everyone getting the good stuff.
Light rain here increasing.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
I have just had an "exciting" flight from Melbourne (departing 1845) and due to arrive at Mt Gambier, South Australia, at 1955 Melbourne time (1925 Adelaide time). The plane was a little one, with 34 seats.
After a smooth routine flight initially, we had some turbulence.
Then at 1950 (approx) it became fairly rough, the regular passengers were saying it was the roughest flight they had had on the regional airline. The hostess had to sit down suddenly and the plane went up and down a fair bit and it was being pushed around a lot, very jerky.
The pilots announced that we were heading into a broad band of thunderstorms and that we did not have enough fuel to "hold" (due to the flight being full with 34 passengers and a lot of luggage) and that we were returning to Melbourne.
We safely arrived back in to Melbourne with no further turbulence.
I'm just glad we beat the storms back to Melbourne, and that the pilots made the right call when things got rough and there was no way round for our little plane.

Alice I am glad you are well and safe. Thanks for the report. It is a different for of indirect storm chasing I am sure I will never experience!!! Well choice wise anyway
Thunder here too. Rain light but about to get Andrews left overs.
Second band forming and looking a lot fresher and larger

That would have been so scary Alice Glad you made it back OK.
The rain seems to be going either side of us when it gets to the Dandenongs. Seen this happen so many times before.

Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Btw I posted before and saved it but in the meantime someone else had posted so I was asked to save again but forgot to and lost the post. This might be why some people's posts don't come through sometimes.
Re: Follow up rain-storms Nov 26-29th.
Rather weird tonight. Had very few lightning strikes but the ones I did get were powerful CGs with rather loud thunder. Closest strike was 6 seconds between lightning and thunder (around 1.5 to 2km away)
Rain has been light at times, moderate most of the time but then heavy for a few bursts and even bordering on torrential at one stage but only very brief. More storms developing across the north central and western districts. Mostly clear here atm.

Just drove around for over an hour to only see a crawler waaaaaay out west and a couple of distant flashes from that Geelong cell. Lots of rain now but a bit of a fizzer on the storm situation so far I am afraid.

Thank you Lily - we got a free joyride! Thanks Rivergirl as well - it wasn't too scary because the pilots pulled out quickly and calmly.
Thank you Karl. All the passengers were relieved, even if somewhat nauseated! A bit of inconvenience sure beats a crash landing somewhere round Hamilton! Let's hope we make it when we try to fly there again in the morning ... better get some shut eye!!!
