Victoria: Wintry fronts with Showers. October 12th to 17th 2009

starting to rain in Bayswater now. Relatively steady and fat drops. Could be a wet, albeit brief band.


Edit: Was just about to report hail, but it stopped as soon as it started.

Steadiness has dropped off also, but going to be off and on for a while i think.

There appears to be a fairly lightning active cell to your NW. Somewhere between Swan Hill and Bendigo. Appears to be moving more E/NE than the other bands.

Once again everything is going north and south of me. grrrrr.

Quite a burst of rain earlier but steady now.

Amplified over the hills.

Really coming down now out there. And very very squally. Winds have intensified quite a bit over the last 15 minutes.

Despite my rant about Kilmore, that band will smack Eildon between the eyes!

Thursday looks slightly better for storm development. LI's a tad better and BOM already forecasting afternoon and evening storms (albeit a chance).

Lets hope this low wobbles a bit further north over the next 12-18 hours.

Seems that gap between the the big patches on the radar is over us now. Winds have eased back slightly . Quite a bit of water has come down in the last half an hour. Which i had a rain gage here.

Was hearing a couple of low rumbles every 3min or so before. Had a nice heavy shower come down for about 5min, got the gutters flowing and the road looking like a river for a min or two. Still unloading truck atm unfortuantly.

Dont forget about whats happening in the Mt Gambier shadow either atm. Could be some more stuff form up in that as they move over.

That last band that moved over here before that i was mentioning had a nice mama display along the front, and the back end almost looked shelf in apparence as well. Interseting looking band anyways....

Back to unloading the truck, hoping for more after 6pm....

Showers on and off all day today. Actually got quite wild regarding wind speed at school! I would have said winds gusting to 60 km/h at times. No damage thankfully.

The radar is looking healthy, more steady showers to stream in here tonight and tomorrow, hoping for a cold-air thunderstorm as well, there are a few about, actually one to my northeast, but low cloud obscurs any view of it and the lightning. Managed to see that particular cell though on the way home from school, looked interesting, but did not chuck out any sparkies until now.

Yeah Wes, might mention too, GFS is indicating lower LI's than earlier indicated, but I think if there was any thunderstorm activity on Thursday, it will be associated just near and on the frontal system itself.

It looks like it is going to miss Melbourne once again!!!

living in hope that next band makes it past the bay without dying off. didnt get too much rain at home. would like a few more drops here. Anyone got any figures of falls around the state so far other than whats o the aws.

Barely a drop in Camberwell all day

Baro had bounced up to 1004 last night is now back to 1001 hPa, we touched 21C here in a moderate westerly and only a trace of rain today since the light storm last evening.

Low system seems to be centered between Melb and Tassie atm, moving slowly E, a band of showers is evident in the LV so hopefully a few mm's for us by the next hour. The radar shows the rain to our W to be tracking SE, indicating the low still centred below Melb in Bass Straight. Hope it moves slowly for a couple more hours - then tracks unexpectedly N towards Merimbula.... dreamin again.

Nothing much here AmaroK, didn't even manage 2mm I'm afraid.

Baro had bounced up to 1004 last night is now back to 1001 hPa, we touched 21C here in a moderate westerly and only a trace of rain today since the light storm last evening.

Low system seems to be centered between Melb and Tassie atm, moving slowly E, a band of showers is evident in the LV so hopefully a few mm's for us by the next hour. The radar shows the rain to our W to be tracking SE, indicating the low still centred below Melb in Bass Straight. Hope it moves slowly for a couple more hours - then tracks unexpectedly N towards Merimbula.... dreamin again.

Not the big system that many were talking, with only a hand full of 20mm falls about the state

Sw and Alps are doing ok with many 10-15mm totals last 2 days, nothing North of the mounts, 1mm or so about the best.

Only 1mm here so far but should be another 3-5mm in coming 6 hours with all that rain to move though nothing great but keeps things damp.

Hoping to see some more rain in the inland, before what looks a warm to almost hot week next week but not unexpected this time of year.

Light rain falling now

Well, action packed here. Solid moderate rain with the occasional torrential downpour and small hail.

7.8mm when I got home at 6pm, then got an isolated downpour with a bit of small hail chucked in, no thunder but another 5.8mm in very quick time. 13.6mm all up. Hopefully this can continue overnight I always get a bit edgy these days because this sort of weather rarely lasts more than a few hours.

Had 4mm here for today (after 3mm yesterday). Pretty sure it hailed during the arvo shower but wasn't around to see it - the drops were huge in Boronia and very splatty . Frustrating system for much of Melbourne with showers failing to line central areas up - Ballarat which is in a straight line for this system ATM has had barely a drop today so nothing has been lining the City up. Out east we are get the "bounce" showers in the lee of the central ranges.

Things are slowly shifting SW so showers should start to improve south of the divide. Reckon we could see 5-10mm the next few hours on the first "trough".

Tomorrow looks nice and wet for the eastern burbs - suspect 5-20mm depending on luck and altitude.

PS starting to see big falls in the NE - lots of 20-30mm and still falling. Might see some rivers in flood out of this

The band has really thickened up in Nth Central areas...

Radar starting to fill in nicely. Just need the Melbourne desert to fill in an then us Melburnians can be happy. Building nicely well west, so we could well have a long, wet evening.

The radar is definitely over reading had a few of the larger patches have supposedly past over me, but had nothing but very light drizzle here.
