Certainly expanding as it comes across. Spectacular sight at the moment with the anvil cutting the sunlight across the sky!!
Expect 5-15mm across Melbourne with this with local hail.

She is erupting at the right time of day...as Andrew says the dryer air between 800 and 600 has washed out and now humid air is returning and being trigged by the trough/convergence line...another good night coming up!

The complex is strong still - creating it's own outflow with Sheoaks back to NWly and Avalon Wly. So there is hope in this system regenerating further cells as it comes closer to Melbourne. But like last night. Watch the northern flank particularly.
Nearly lightning time!!!

Sporadic flashes to the NW so the light show has begun. Really looking quite impressive across the west atm. Hopefully it keeps its strength through central districts as we are at that dodgy time of night when it usually dies off. Hopefully the dynamics of the trough line can keep it going though.

Does look like it is dying off and contracting also slipping south which is no good for here. Better activity further north where there is much more heat around than here. Bendigo looking like the big winner out of the whole thing, should see some big totals there.

I can see a lot more lightning from tonight's thunderstorm compared to last night's. Pretty much one lightning strike every few seconds. No thunder once again.

Backbuilding and intensifying again. So hard to keep up with the movement and nature of storms they are so unpredictable. Could still get very interesting.

Yes, before it seemed like they were splitting up but it looks like it's merging again. I hope it stays in a strong line because rain bands or lines of showers always break up when it hits around melton/melbourne airport.

Flashes every 3 to 4 seconds as the line approaches, very lightning active. Close enough for rumbles now and just starting to spit.

Re: Victoria: Thunderstorm Outbreak. October 28th-November 3rd 2009
Always tricky but with the extraordinary surface dewpoints and warm land temperatures over central areas suspect this complex will continue for a few hours. Wouldn't be surprised to see it build up as it approached the eastern burbs where the hills tend to increase frictional inflow. Will know within an hour but that is my hunch. This complex is not simply a diurnal storm system that will disappear with the sun..

Nice lightning, although looks like it will go either side of me:(
