1mm in a minute @ Mildura. No hugely gusty winds, but decent rainfall rates!!

Time to snooze a tad, we are on 32mm! Would be brilliant to crack 50mm by morning, but hey, am very happy with evidence so far. Best result for sure, in my little space, this year, no doubt.

Melbourne likely to score 35-40mm before the main rain arrives. The bay being so warm is throwing plenty of low cloud and heavy drizzle amongst the rainfall.

Heavy drops starting here again and looking like another quick fire 5-10mm here from the north with another convective shower moving slowly down!!

Heavy rain is around Horsham moving into the Grampians with another band of intense rain still well west of Adelaide.

Lot more rainfall to come!!

Next to nothing in Lilydale, and yet Mt Dandenong which is not far away: 25mm.

Big "blob" approaching Mildura looks ominous. If that hits a mountain range (North Central Vic???), deluge of epic proportions???

26mm here in Elwood. Amazing the degree to which the radar is underestimating rain rates at least here. Still pouring. Good luck to all.

The "blob" is beginning to deliver big rainfall totals along the Murray. Mildura is up to 29mm, belting down in Swan Hill too...

There could be several "waves" of heavy rain to arrive yet. Spencer Gulf region in SA is getting drenched atm.

Morning all, was about to say the same thing Greg. I haven't seen figures like these in the 2 area's I've lived (Caroline Springs & Epping) for a really long time, and by that I mean at least a couple of years! Rain gauge was almost up to the actual rim (past reading display markers) when I checked 10 minutes ago. We have had about 42mm here all up.

Well there you go, 22mm over night (between midnight and 7am), up to 26mm and still raining cheers , might be something in this for us Andrew after all

Quick edit, I slightly ran over the rain gauge with the mower yesterday and broke the top of it so I am probably underreading given the amount of water around and the full birdbath.

43mm here so far and here comes the daylight band, just about to hit. It's moving very quickly though, unlike last night. Karl do you think that's the leading edge of the low as it starts to bomb?

LUKEN: trust me on this one mate, get on your real estate's website and file a tenants report and attach that photo to it. They will be bashing the door down to get it fixed. This new system they have in place put's them in the position to pay for it if it's damaged and not fixed ASAP. Send a copy to yourself. Then ring, never ring first or e-mail the agent directly if they have a page like this. It can't be ignored or deleted, also call the SES to put a tarp up for you and take more photo's to show you're doing the right thing.
EXAMPLE:- http://www.jelliscraig.com.au/go/leasing/tenant-information/maintenance-request-form

back on topic; light rain is slowly turning to steady rain once again. I think I might hit 50mm by 9AM. Well I'm hoping to.

Today I'm buying a rain gauge.

Well what an awesome drop!! Models were spot on, 50mm falls all over the place..mind you, it was an easy one for the models given the intense heat and the upper cold pool.

And as i posted on the 3rd when some poeple were having a sook about the fine spell to come, and Karl said dont count your chickens yet, the heat was a blessing. The cold air worked its way in and here we are talking about our best event in ages. And next week looks even better.

23mm here so far which given the heavy stuff was to our west is excellent. Last night coming home at 10pm the Eastern freeway was like the Eastern Waterway, flooding everywhere! Still more to come yet too.

Yeah, Dagget. All of my whingeing and drama paid off in the end. Laughing Razz

Around about 32mm here, can't be exact yet because the Nylex gauges overflow at 26mm but I reckon there was about 5mm or 6mm extra at the bottom. Back to light rain now after a very heavy downpour just before. Didn't get much sleep, kept waking up through the night thankfully to heavy rain so had to get up again and then back to bed.

Not sure about the rest of the day. Models and BOM suggest another burst of heavy rain through the morning before easing off in the afternoon. The low is still back in western VIC with an interesting line of convective looking precipitation through SW VIC atm with the SW change. Potential for that line to be the heaviest of the lot but we'll just have to wait and see.

Might have to drive down to Bullengarook today, could be some flash flooding there after 91mm in around 12hrs. Shocked

Also reckon the Maribyrnong would be experiencing some fairly fast rises with 30-40mm in the upper catchment, 50-60mm in the middle catchment and 40-50mm in the lower catchment in relatively quick time.

Look like it isn't over yet either, justifiable sook as well from my point of reference, going to bed with only 4mm after everthing else that was happening was too much like all the other recent events for us, had to get up ealy when I heard all the rain as I thought I would miss it all!

As Karl mentioned in an earlier post, even the gaps between rain bands there is quite solid drizzly rain. Radar showing up some patchy white over us but still coming down solidly. Doppler doesn't pick up small drops well.

What a ripper. The best event for the year (mind you it has been a crap year!). Up to (about) 46mm (event 49mm) and still coming down thickly. Was looking for 50mm, so anything from here is a bonus Laughing Has been the best sort of rain thick and steady for >12 hours with hardly a break, and for the most part not heavy enough to runoff.

Next 6 hours are really interesting as we should go into SW convergence/wrap around on the back side of the low. With a record hot bay this has the potential to drop some very heavy (Sydney time rainfall). EC has 25mm for us in 4 hours (but doesn't get the topography right - too flat). Could well see an event total by 100mm by 3pm if it goes to plan.

BTW pleased to see almost no one miss out on a decent drop - only the far west has really dudded so far but they are now getting decent rain.

BTW here's the latest (top) hydro obs. Should see a few 100mm+ totals by 9am.

Going to go for a quick drive today as well but to Trentham, have to see how much water is over the new block of land to get an idea where the house can go, last time it looked excellent with a little dam forming along the front and side fencelines - will need to expliot that to good effect.

I am impressed too that instead of no rain between bands we are getting the drizzle, not often the radar is less optimistic then reality.
