Thanks Jane. The batteries are already charging, dunno where i'll find the energy too......
Be pretty hard to capture any decent lightning tonight, i don't usually tackle coldies due to the rate of knots that they travel at, just too hard. But, tonight might get some interesting drama along the shoreline with elevated seas.

I'm starting to lose count of how many times radars go down on the eve of a decent event. Can remember when the Melb radar was down for a prolonged period when some unstable weather was expected.
Blowy in town today. I really should have taken an extra week off given the weather forecast

Thanks John, will post up few images when i get a chance to do some post processing from my trip.
Yer, right on Sniper, it shows how far behind our radar system goes as far world standard is concerned.
Sat pic though shows some nice tops out to the sw. Should be good.

A few mm starting to clock up along the southwest coast so could be a bit moving I'm on the first cells.

Looks like a half decent band of rain and potential storms and squall moving in fast
Have to keep a close eye on it.

I'm 4 inches shorter than Karl Greg but welcome back anyway mate
Starting to build to the West still think a period of rain is possible. Wind picking up too real gusty now

Be interesting to see the Sheoaks Obs come out as as that cell passes over...... hearing the drum roll now;)

Unbelievable bank of rain/storms through Adelaide, and with Mt G radar offline you would suggest it extends SEwards through to West central areas. Satellite pic confirms this.

Well now I'm back up on my feet the forcast is looking nice.
very very gusty up here ATM. Plenty of raised dirt in the air. That band west of ballarat and Geelong looks nice on radar, but watch the wind rip it to shreds soon. The stuff coming through Adelaide now looks to be more promising. Plenty of hail, and as Greg said landspouts should be a nice sight around today...
As I type we getting a brief hail shower now in fact and wind just picked up considerably... Nothing on radar... And it just stopped. Haha.

yeah I'm getting a bit more excited about this one, landspouts hey?! Would waterspouts be a good call too?
Hinezy's thinking about a chase maybe, you preparing for one too Greg?

I'll be chained to desk until 6pm...... as always;( But i've got thing ready for after that period.
It will be hard one for lightning again due to the speed and wind, but still could be good for city / cloud movement
with slow shutter speeds. Williamstown would be my pick atm.

Very dark over the bay. Geelong Airport recently recorded a 46kt gust. Not as strong as Friday but still solid!!
Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
yes can see the dark band to my sw. Any visuals on the base features? Too many houses in the way.
Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
Nothing out of the ordinary Greg (at the moment).
This band/line is strengthening. As it passed Sheoaks it didn't record a higher gust than one recorded earlier this afternoon (38kt). However Geelong Air and now Avalon have recorded highest wind gust in the past 30 mins.
Edit: South Channel just recorded a 54kt gust.

Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
The other thing to note is a sharp drop in temp. Avalon has dropped from 15 to 9. Sheoaks was similar but is now rising moderately again...
Re: Victoria: Cold Outbreak. Series of Strong Cold Fronts. August 23rd - 28th 2009
This line should be very squally in the CBD and eastern suburbs. It is very dark to my south where rain has broken out to the southeast suburbs.
Rain periods developing behind this band and the cold front making it's mark on the 256km radar offshore.

It is looking very dark and windy outside my window in Camberwell. Got quite a good view, very good cloud cover in many layers...looks ominous and like we are going to get an absolute dumping.

Temp has dropped here with the next band coming through in moments here. Nothing like this morning's band which looked mean and nasty. Scored about 3.5mm out this morning

Yes as karl metioned guys I would expect a period of rain with this and following immediately behind. Looks to me there be hail in this the temp drops off remarkebly which suggests hail to me and wind squalls to 55 knots

It's just skirting to the s/sw of me here, currently 15.8 degrees. Had less than 1mm here this morning, though when it came through I was in Caulfield and boy was it dark! Copped another band mid morning (10-ish am?) when I was on Balwyn Road, very heavy downpour but shortlived.
Waiting...

Here's the view looking west towards the city.
Very amateurish I know. Hoping for an interesting evening.
